Let’s Go to the Movies!
Музыка фильма «Огни большого города». / Ведущие выходят на сцену.
Narrator 1: Hello, dear guests! We are glad to see you in our school.
Narrator 2: We know you’ve had a hard day today. It’s obvious that you are really tired now and need a
rest. Besides, as the English proverb says, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”
Narrator1: Don’t worry! We are not going to offer you any silly games or quizzes. We just want you to
relax and have a good time. And where can people have a good rest and forget all their troubles?
Narrator 2: … In a restaurant, … in the circus, … at the cinema …
Narrator 1: Exactly! At the cinema! Because only watching a film, you can dream. You can imagine you
are a graceful aristocratic lady, or a handsome playboy, or a courageous cowboy … You can sympathize
with film characters. You can really enjoy wonderful sound tracks …
Narrator 2: OK, OK. Agreed! Let’s go to the cinema. To be more exact, let’s go to the movies. (Слайд
“Hollywood”) Because we invite you to make an imaginary journey through popular American movies.
(Звучит музыка из фильма «Огни большого города»)
Narrator1: It’s hard to find a person who hasn’t heard the name of Charles Spencer Chaplin, the famous
comedian and film director. He was one of the first filmmakers to achieve success and to become a real
superstar.
Клиппесня”Nonsence Song”
At the time when films were silent and blackandwhite the world was crazy about his film character, who
had a small moustache, a bowler hat, and a walking stick, and walked in a funny way. His Charlie, small and
clumsy yet kindhearted, generous and brave, has attracted the hearts of simple people in different countries.
Narrator 2: Chaplin was an incredibly talented person. He produced films, directed them, acted in them and
also wrote music to some of them. One of the most moving songs was written by Chaplin to his film
“Modern Times”. The name of the song is “Smile”. To my mind, the song is as gentle and sad as Chaplin’s
smile.
Исполняется песня “Smile” .
Narrator 1: As for me, I enjoy both the music and the lyrics of the song. I think we can use some of its
words as a life motto, for example: “If you smile through your fear and sorrow, smile and maybe tomorrow
you’ll see the sun come shining through for you”.
Narrator 2: Yes, indeed, let’s smile as often as we can to our family members, to our friends, to all people
around us. And then our life will be happier. Now let’s continue our journey. Do you like jazz music? If you
do, you must know the name of Glenn Miller.
Звучит композиция “In the Mood”.
Narrator 1: Alton Glenn Miller was an American musician, arranger, composer, and band leader in
the swing era. He was the bestselling recording artist from 1939 to 1943, leading one of the best known big
bands. Miller and his band appeared in two films. The first one was “Sun Valley Serenade”. The second
was “Orchestra Wives”.
Narrator 2: “Sun Valley Serenade”came to the screen in 1941. The film introduced and showcased classics
like "Chattanooga ChooChoo" and "I've Got A Gal In Kalamazoo". Besides "Chattanooga ChooChoo",
another popular tune in the film is "I Know Why".
Исполняется джазовая композиция “I Know Why”.
Narrator 1: Glenn Miller and his band were flying in a plane from England to France in 1944 when the
plane disappeared over the English Channel. Neither the plane nor any bodies were ever found. Yet the
music performed by Glenn Miller’s band is still very popular with the public. Narrator 2: Let’s go on! In 1952 the public saw a new musical film and began to sing its catchy melodies.
The name of the film was “Singin’ In the Rain”. It was a musicalromantic comedy based on several old
songs written for different Broadway shows. The film was directed by Stanley Donnen and Gene Kelly. The
latter sang and danced to a song with the same name “Singing in the Rain”.
КЛИП “Singin in the Rain” / Исполняется танец под музыку из фильма.
Narrator 1: Well, whatever the weather, don’t get upset and try to look at the world in an optimistic way!
And now the turn of my favourite song has come.
Narrator 2: How very interesting! It must be something really cool.
Narrator 1: I don’t know what you mean by “cool”. The song I like is moving and even tearjerking
Narrator 2: What is this masterpiece called?
Narrator 1: “Moon River”. By the way, the famous American singer and film actor Frank Sinatra called
this song “a hymn to the last romantic”. The song was performed by Audrey Hepburn in the film “Breakfast
at Tiffany’s”.
Narrator 2: Audrey Hepburn … Слайдшоу «О. Хёпберн» I know this actress. I’ve seen her in the film
“My Fair Lady”. She is really talented. She sang and danced perfectly well in the film.
Narrator 1: Yes, that’s true. And do you know that Audrey also worked for UNICEF (United Nations
Children’s Fund)? She helped poor and sick children in places like Africa and Latin America. Moreover,
Audrey Hepburn was a beautiful and graceful woman, recognized as a fashion icon.
Narrator 2: Well, I’m eager to listen to your favourite song.
Исполняется песня “MOON RIVER”.
Narrator 1: Well, my huckleberry friend, did you like the song?
Narrator 2: Yes, it sounds really romantic.
Narrator 1: By the way, Henry Mancini, the composer, and Johnny Mercer, the author of the lyrics, were
awarded the Oscar for this song in 1962.
Narrator 2: I think the song is worth it.
Narrator 1: Well, dear guests, our journey is over. We only told you about old American films. Someone
may say they are oldfashioned and rather sentimental. Their characters are naïve. Yet there is something in
all these old films that still attracts people. They may be true feelings and immortal values such as love,
faithfulness, friendship.
Ученик читает стихотворение.
When you feel down or under strain,
There is a very good thing
That’ll help you forget your sorrow and pain:
It’s watching an old film.
You’ll see funny Charlie walking with cane,
Whose smile is faint and sad.
You’ll dance with the man in the heavy rain,
Yet you will not get wet.
Of course, one may say that all those films
Are just oldfashioned trash.
Who cares about such silly things?
Watch old hits and feel fresh! Narrator 2: We hope you enjoyed our journey. We are grateful to all the actors who took part in our
performance.
Музыка из фильма «Огни большого города». / Все артисты выходят на сцену.
Narrator 2: Thank you for your kind attention.
Everyone: Goodbye!
