The portrait of a modern teacher.
Having looked for the meaning of the word “teacher”, I
understood that in the dictionaries it means only “the person
who educates someone”. But we know that teachers do not only
educate their pupils, but bring them up and help them to become
the part of society. Teachers, along with parents, take part in the
process of upbringing. Teachers help to resolve conflicts and
arguments, they explain the rules of behavior and a lot more. It
is very important for teachers to find an approach to every pupil.
As Anton Semenovich Makarenko said “Don't think that you
bring up your child only when you are talking to him or her or
when you are teaching him or her... You bring up him or her at
every moment of your life... How you dress, how you talk to
other people and about other people, when you are happy or sad,
how you communicate with your friends and enemies, how you
laugh... all this is of great importance for the child”. That’s
why teacher must have an excellent reputation and become a
good example of imitation for his or her pupils, and sometimes
have a good sense of humor. After that pupils will be proud of
their teacher and trust him or her everything.
I think that the profession of a teacher is one of the most
ancient and important professions in the world. Because without
teachers there would be neither poets, nor thinkers, neither
scientists nor leaders…
Nowadays scientists, psychologists repeatedly address the
teacher's problem, giving this concept other names, such as
"competences" or "professional qualities" of the teacher. This question remains actual because the state and society changes
eventually, requirements towards to the teacher also change.
Volume and quality of information, contents of school
programs, textbooks, methodic change too. Using computer
technologies becomes regular in activities of the teacher. Of
course, the computer helps to obtain information, the book gives
a material for thought, but only the teacher can educate and
bring up his or her pupil. Only the teacher can be the partner,
assistant and helper during the lessons.
Since childhood I have dreamed of becoming a teacher.
Firstly, it was an unconscious desire. I liked to play a game “At
school”. Then after the ninth form I didn’t think about my future
profession, but my father helped me to make a right decision. So
I became a teacher of English.
Nowadays pupils begin to study English in the first form. So
I am the first who give my pupils the knowledge that English is
an international language, it is the language of business,
diplomacy and international relations, the language of
progressive science and engineering. I convince them that it is
absolutely necessary for every educated person, for every good
specialist to know English well today. I try to do my best to
make my lessons interesting and entertaining. We often watch
English video films and then have a discussion. We get
acquainted with English and American writers reading their
works in the original. During the lessons we also listen to pop
songs and try to understand the words. In conclusion, I can say that a good teacher must have many
qualities: to be creative, hardworking, selfrestrained, able to
solve problems and make the right decisions.
