In 1782 the bald eagle was chosen as the national bird of the country.

American people wanted the eagle to be a symbol of their country because it’s a strong and brave bird.

The bald eagle was found all over the North America.

In 1960s the bald eagle has already disappeared from the country

The birds disappeared because of the pollution of the rivers by pesticides.

Pesticides are things to kill insects and other animals that attack farmers’ fields and gardens .

Rain often washes pesticides into rivers . Pesticides pollute rivers and poison the fish.

Eagles eat these fish and then lay eggs which are not healthy .

So, the baby eagles are very weak.

Eagles lay only two or three eggs a year.

Today , American people are trying to protect the bald eagle.

Now people of the USA are sure that the American national bird will be a symbol of the country in the future.
