Kazakhstan is my Motherland.
The aims: to develop students’ skills in reading, speaking,
to be able to speak about our motherland,
to develop pupils’ logic thinking, memory,
to bring them up to love our country and to be an individual citizen of our country.

Kazakhstan was established as the Republic of Kazakhstan in December 1991. The
country is the second largest of the former Soviet republics with a total land area of over
2.724 million square kilometres. This country shares its border with the Russian Federation
to the north and northwest; to the east with China and to the south with the central Asian
republics of Kirgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
The Ural River flows through the western portion of Kazakhstan to the ('aspian Sea.
The central region of the country includes the Kazakh Steppe (o the north and deserts of
central Asia in the southwest.
The country is rich with mineral resources such as copper, gold, iron, lead, nickel, silver,
tin, uranium and zink with deposits of oil and natural gas.
Kazakhstan's largest city is Almaty which lies to the southeast of the country near the
border with Kirgyzstan and China. Almaty was the capital until December 1997 when
it was moved to Akmola, 850 kilometres to the northwest. In May 1998 Akmola was
renamed Astana, the Kazakh word for capital. Astana's population stands currently at
500,000.
Peaceful and generous, the land of the Kazakhs has always been famous for its
hospitality. And it is not by accident, located on the crossroads of two ancient cultures —
Europe and Asia.
Today, residents are happy to share their famous hospitality and to show (he visitors the

exhibitions, art workshops , creative unions , concert halls make the capital of the
keeper of the best traditions and cultural achievements . If you come to Kazakhstan to relax, for entertainment, at weekends and on holidays
you have a rich choice of places to relax.
In summer people can sunbathe at Kapchagai reservoir or climb mountains; go to
IssykKul Lake which is in Kirghizstan or skate on Medeu. Some people prefer playing
tennis, swimming or strolling in gardens and parks; some like to relax at resorts located
around Almaty. Winter season offers skiing at the Shimbulak ski baze and skating on
the Medeu skating rink or hiking in the mountains. Various festivals are constantly held
in the republic featuring modern pop stars, classical music artists and ballet dancers.
Numerous theatres, concert halls and cinemas offer entertainment. At night city life
doesn't tail away: many restaurant, casinos and discotheques are open. IV. Answer the questions:
