Task II. Read Jessica”s letter to a newspaper and say if the sentences below are true, false or no information is given in the text.
Hello everybody!
Let me introduce myself. I’m Jessica and I decided to write to this newspaper about my great-grandmother. We don”t always remember our ancestors but I’m lucky to live with my great-grandmother who is 95 now. She’s the oldest member of my family and we all love her very much. She enjoys reading this newspaper that’s why I decided to write you.
My great –granny’s name is Maud and she lives with us. She was born in a small village of Aveburry not far from Salisbury. Her family wasn’t a rich one so she had to work hard since her childhood.
At the age of nine she went to school and she says that she was lucky because not all children at that time could go to school. After eight years of studying she became a teacher in a village school. At the age of twenty-two great –granny got married. When she was thirty she went to the university in Swansea and after fishing it came back to her native village to continue her work. She enjoyed working with little children. She has lived almost all her life in the same village. Granny used to have a yard with a few sheep and a goat. Still she enjoys our garden.
Now she is living with us in Newcastle and I’m really happy because I can see her every day and before this I used to visit her only once a year.
Sometimes she write letters to her friends and put them in a letter-box. I think she is the only person who uses it now. She is a little afraid of a traffic and seldom goes anywhere alone. She says that mother shouldn’t take me to visit her friends even if they also have children. It’s a bit old-fashioned, to my mind.
Every evening she meets some other elderly ladies, they enjoy walking in the park or go to listen to music concerts in the Botanical Gardens. Sometimes she goes to the theatre but not often.
I think that my great-grandmother is a unique lady and I’m very proud of her.
