It’s a wonderful world we live in. It is our Earth. For thousands of years the Earth has given
support to all forms of life – human beings, animals, birds, fishes, insects and plants. But
now people all over the world think about our planet. They think about air, water, plants
and animals on the Earth. They say our planet is in danger. We have very serious
environmental problems on our Earth. Who can say what these problems are?

Water Pollution
Water pollution is one of the famous and one of the largest problems in our world. People in Africa cannot drink
clean water; their children die because a big part of our water has been polluted. Children in Kenya often have to
go many kilometers to collect drinking water. At all over 2 million people don't have clean water. And we do not
know how it will be in future.
But the pollute water killed animals and plants too. There is no ocean or sea, which is not used as a dump. Many
seas are used for dumping industrial and nuclear waste. This poisons and kills fish and sea animals. "Nuclear
poisoned" fish can be eaten by people.
Many rivers and lakes are poisoned too. Fish and reptiles cannot live in them. There is not enough oxygen in the
water. In such places all the birds leave their habitats and many plants die. If people drink this water they can die
too. It happens so because factories produce a lot of waste and pour it into rivers. So they poison water.
But we MUST keep our planet and water of our planet clean. If we want to live, we should guard our clean water
and do not pollute them because we could live without food about a month but without water we could die in 45
days. Let's keep our water clean!
Air Pollution
Obviously air is essential for every life being on our planet — for people, animals and plants. Without air no life
on Earth could exist. But today we face one urgent problem — the industry keeps on developing and it results in
air pollution. There are so many factories around that exhaust wastes into the air. If you live in city you have
certainly noticed how hard it is to breath sometimes. This happens because of huge amount of cars and their
exhausts. In some countries there is even a law that allows families to have only one car to reduce the amount of
harmful substances that they throw into the air.
Why is air pollution so dangerous? Of course the first reason is that we need fresh air to breathe. Another reason is
greenhouse effect. Around the Earth we have an ozon layer which saves us from the harmful effect of ultraviolet
radiation. All the wastes we throw into the air destroy the ozon layer and more radiation penetrates into the
atmosphere. Consequently, the air becomes hotter and this is called greenhouse effect which results in global
warming. Why is global warming dangerous? It causes ice to melt and this can lead to world flood.
There are still some measures people can take to reduce air pollution. First of all factories should use special filters
on their smoke stacks. People should decrease logging and the thing every person can do is to plant more trees. In
our city we have a special event when people plant trees along the embankment. I think this is very useful. We
should also make everyone aware of global problems and have special ecological education at schools. Because
we have only one planet to live and we must save it. Unfortunately we must save it from ourselves. Soil Pollution.
Soil pollution is a major problem today. The main sources of soil pollution are industrial waste and the use of
pesticides and insecticides. The destruction on forests, rising salinity in the soil and erosion of farmlands affect
soil pollution fertility. Even killing insects leads to ecological imbalance as insects provide food for birds. Fruit
and vegetables sprayed with chemicals affect their health.
Soil pollution is directly proportional to the volume of industrial waste, the use of pesticides and insecticides, the
destruction of forests, rising salinity in the soil, erosion of farmlands. Soil pollution is inversely proportional to
people health.
