Legal Tradition

Legal Tradition: Civil Law. Russia uses the Civil Law tradition. This system is based on written laws and codes, not primarily on court decisions. Legislation is usually centralized and detailed. It differs from Common Law systems, which rely more on judicial precedent.

The Supreme Law

The Supreme Law: The Russian Constitution. The Constitution of the Russian Federation is the supreme law of the land. It has the highest legal power and all other laws must follow it. It defines the government structure, human rights and freedoms, and the federal system.

Article 21 of the Russian Constitution

No one may be subjected to medical, scientific or other experiments without his or her voluntary consent. This article protects human dignity and states that it cannot be degraded. It strictly forbids torture, violence, and any cruel or humiliating treatment or punishment. It also ensures that no one can be forced into medical, scientific, or other experiments without their free and informed agreement (consent). This article highlights Russia's commitment to fundamental human rights and the protection of individuals.
