History of creation
The history of the Supreme Court in Russia began in 1922 with the adoption of the Statute on the Judicial System of the RSFSR. This led to the establishment of the Supreme Court of the RSFSR.
Key milestones in its development include:
1924: The creation of the Supreme Court of the USSR following the formation of the Soviet Union.
1991: The abolition of the Supreme Court of the USSR (effective January 2, 1992). The Supreme Court of the RSFSR became its successor.
1993: The Constitution of the Russian Federation changed the procedure for the formation of the Supreme Court: judges were appointed by the Federation Council on the basis of the President of the Russian Federation's proposal.
2014: Reform: the Supreme Court and the Supreme Arbitration Court of the Russian Federation were merged into a single Supreme Court of the Russian Federation to unify judicial practice. The law on the amendment to the Constitution was signed on February 5, 2014.

The Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of the Russian Federation is the highest judicial authority for civil cases, resolution of economic disputes, criminal, administrative, and other cases subject to the jurisdiction of courts of general jurisdiction and arbitration courts established in accordance with federal constitutional law and exercising judicial power through civil, arbitration, administrative, and criminal proceedings, as well as exercising judicial supervision over the activities of courts of general jurisdiction and arbitration courts in the procedural forms provided for by federal law and providing explanations on judicial practice. It is located in the former building of the Supreme Court of the USSR in Moscow.

Structure of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation
The structure of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation includes:
Plenum; Presidium; Appeal Board; Administrative Court Board; Civil Court Board; Economic Disputes Court Board; Criminal Court Board; Military Court Board; Disciplinary Board.
In addition, there is the Office of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation and the Scientific Advisory Council under the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
There is also the Judicial Department under the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, which is responsible for ensuring the activities of lower courts of general jurisdiction and is subordinate to the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation and the Council of Judges of the Russian Federation.

Composition and appointment of judges
The total number of judges is 170.
Judges are appointed by the Federation Council on the basis of the President of the Russian Federation.
The minimum age of a candidate is 35 years, and they must have at least 10 years of legal experience.
The Chairman of the Supreme Court is appointed for a period of 6 years (and can be reappointed an unlimited number of times).
