Урок английского языка по теме «St. Valentine’s Day»

(5-6 класс)

Цели урока: обогащать картину мира, развивать навыки выразительного говорения, аудирования, активизировать ранее изученные лексико-грамматические структуры в речи обучающихся, на основе соревнования развивать навыки и умения работать в команде.

Тип урока: обобщающий, урок повторения.

Ход урока

I.      Организационный момент.

1.     Приветствие.

II.   Введение в иноязычную среду.

1.     Постановка темы и задач урока.

Pupils, what holiday is celebrated on the 14 of February? You are right! It’s St. Valentine’s Day!

2.     Вступительное слово учителя.

Dear boys and girls! You know that nowadays people all over the world celebrate St. Valentine’s Day, а day for lovers. At this time of the year, it’s traditional for young people to send cards and presents with red hearts on them to one another. The 14 of February has been considered a good time to choose your lover because it’s the mating season of the birds. We also have to determine our pairs. It’s an ancient tradition. These pairs are chosen for the whole year. Valentines should be polite, kind and helpful in relation to each other.

3.     Выбор пар для соревнований.

Here are two hats. One of them contains the names of girls and another one contains the names of boys. Everybody should choose the partner. The partner recites the poem, rhyme or proverb about love for his (her) partner and gives the present for his (her) partner.

III.             Конкурсы. Соревнования.

1.     Tongue twisters (Phoenetic exercises)

Each pupil should choose one pattern and read it correctly and as quickly as possible.

Each pair can get 2, 1 or 0 heart-cards:

1.     James plays with trains and planes.

2.     Kate bakes eight tasty cakes.

3.     Fat Pad had a fat cat.

4.     Pat’s black cat sat in Pat’s hat.

5.     White chalk is on a black blackboard.

6.     Cob is Dob’s dog, Tob is Mob’s dog.

7.     A girl sees three big geese.

8.     A cup of coffee is a nice coffee-cup.

9.     Sid sees six trees.

10. Here is a rose, the rose is red.

2.     “Cross-Word” Competition

What fruit will you use to prepare the juice for your valentine?

By means of this competition we’ll revise the names of fruit and their spelling.

Such words as apple, cherry, banana, pear, plum, lemon, orange are arranged in the cross-word table.

3.     “Dominos” Competition

What is the favourite colour of my Valentine?

Обучающиеся должны сложить из картинок домино названия цветов: black, red, grey, brown, blue.

4.     Competition “Find the opposites”

5.     The next competition is on how you understand boys and girls. Do you know the things girls and boys are made of?

There is a table with some words. The pupils should choose the right ones for boys and girls. Ученики выбирают названия предметов с опорой на конструкцию:

«Girls (boys) today are made of…».

Таблица содержит следующие слова: cakes, sports, T-shirts, songs, skirts, hamburgers, tears, snakes, anger, ice-cream, music, candies, trotters.

6.     “Be quick to answer!”

Please, solve the following riddles:

1)    What year lasts only one day? (It’s New Year)

2)    In what month do we work, eat and sleep least? (February)

3)    What man cannot live inside the house? (Snowman)

4)    Your teacher puts marks in it (A record book)

5)    I can tell you all the day. Time to sleep and time to play. (A clock)

6)    This is a house with one window in it, showing films nearly every minute (A TV-set)

7)    Never planted, still it grows, what’s the answer? Now, who knows?

8)    If you want to draw a straight line, make use of me, for this business is mine. (A ruler)

9)    It is red and sweet, and it’s good to eat. (An apple)

10)                       I’m black, and red, and blue, I draw a picture for you. (A pencil)

7.     Listening Comprehension. “St. Valentine’s Day”

1)    Дети слушают запись текста.

2)    Отвечают на вопросы:

What is the symbol of the holiday?

Who was Valentine?

Why do we celebrate this holiday on the February 14?

What can you send as a present to your lover?

3)    Дети выполняют письменный тест, выбирая правильный вариант ответа:

IV.            Подведение итогов соревнований.

Учащиеся подсчитывают количество полученных «сердец» и сообщают о своих результатах с опорой на конструкцию: «we have got…»

По результатам соревнований и конкурсов выбирают пару:

“Miss Valentine” and “Mr. Valentine”.

В качестве подарка для всех присутствующих группа детей декламирует стих Р. Бернса “A red, red rose”.
