1.Warm up (W, D) Card Game Tell student that the aim of the game is to be the first student to lay down all the picture cards by correctly using past simple to talk about the actions on each card. Divide the class into groups. Give the groups sets of cards. One student goes first and takes the picture card and makes a past simple sentence “Yesterday, went cycling”. All the students do the same. ‘Restart’ card enables students to change the verb into something else, e.g. “Yesterday, I did my homework”.
2. Activity 1 (P, f) Presentation (Introduce the Present and Past Simple Passive)
T explains that we use the passive when what was done is more important than who did it, or when we don’t know who did it
Students read out the theory box. T elicits that we form the passive with the verb to be and the past participle. Teacher refers students’ attention to the p 144 with irregular verbs and the 3rd form.
3. Activity 2. Practice (F,I) – SB: ex 7 p 21 in copy book Students fill in: is, are, was, were Answer key: 1. Were 2. Are 3. Is 4. Were
4. Activity 3 Productions (W, I )
T divides students into groups. Students make present simple sentences to describe the objects. For example, if the student takes the card with dictionary, he says: It’s made from paper. It is used in the classroom. It’s used by students and teacher.
The first student to guess the object gets the card. The student with the most card at the end of the game wins.
Differentiation: More able students if there is extra time do ex8 p 21 in SB. They make sentences about themselves using given expressions as in the example.
Home task: WB: Ex.7, p.15
