Objectives    : - To develop pupil’s  speaking skills through interactive methods (group work); - To broaden pupil’s knowledge of the topic; - To practice pupil’s reading skills; - Use vocabulary on the topic; - To develop and broaden pupil’s outlook; - To practice pupil’s writing skills. Equipment: - A map of New York; - Handouts with tasks; - Power Point Presentations; - Computer. PROCEDURE GREETINGS - Teacher:  Hello, dear boys and girls! I’m glad to see you in a good mood! Everybody looks wonderful today. Are you ready to work?  - Pl.:… - Teacher: Let’s start. Don’t forget that I’m going to evaluate your work during the lesson. At the end we’ll sum up all your results. Work as hard as you can. Today we are continuing to speak about America.  ”The tree of expectations” - Teacher:    Have   you   noticed   the   apples   on   you   desks?   These   apples   are   from   the   tree   of expectations. Take them and write what you expect to do during the lesson. What would you like to do? - Pl.:… II. WARMING­UP. BRAINSTORMING - Teacher: For the first activity I would like to play a “Snowball” game with you. If we are in America, what place would you like to visit? - Pl. 1:I would like to see a New York. And you? - Pl. 1:I would like to see a New York and The Empire State Building. And you? Etc.  - Teacher: Today we are going to speak about one of the most famous American cities. This city has a lot of nicknames. Here are some of them:  “The City That Never Sleeps”, “The Capital of the World”, “The Center of the Universe”,  (Slide 1). Try to guess the name of this city! What are you ideas?  - Pl.: (share their ideas) - Teacher: Yes, you are absolutely right. It’s a New York! (Slide 2) Let's take a virtual trip to New York and see all the sights of this wonderful city! Today we are going to work in two groups! Now, take please cards from the box with one of the national symbols (a rose, an eagle).  III. MAIN PART 1. Pre ­ reading task.  - Teacher:  Now we are going to read the text about famous places in New York. Your task is to read the text attentively and be ready for different exercises. During your reading you can find in text new words. Look at the screen (Slide 3) . Repeat these words after me:  a borough [b r ] – район ᴧ ǝ       υ Brooklyn [br klin] – Бруклин  Staten Island [st Айленд   a skyscraper – небоскреб ᴂ tn ail nd] – Статен­ ǝ Manhattan [m nh tn] –  ᴂ ᴂ Манхэттен Queens [kwi:nz] – Куинз the Bronx [br ɒɧ ks] – Бронкс - Teacher:  Now look at the map of New York and you can see these boroughs (Slide 4).  2. Reading. ­ Teacher:  Now read the text please. You have 5 minutes. ( Handout 1) 3. After reading - Teacher: The first task is “NEW YORK CITY LANDMARKS’’.Write the name of the building, monument or place under each picture.When you are ready, check each others. Look at the screen and correct mistakes (Slides 5 ­ 6). Handout 2 ­Teacher:   The second task is “Read and decide TRUE or FALSE”.   Look at the screen and correct mistakes (Slides 7 ­ 8). Handout 3 ­Teacher:  The third task is to match the beginning of each sentence with its end. Now look at the screen and correct each others (Slides 9 ­ 10). Handout 4 ­Teacher:  Next task is to answer the questions (Slides 11 ­ 12). Handout 5 4. The eye gym.          ­Teacher:  Look at the screen and follow the figures, it is very beneficial for the eyes. Nice?  Very good! IV. SUMMING – UP.  - Teacher:  Let’s count your scores and find who the winner is today? Great my congratulations.
