Warm-up
T: Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! How are you today? (Ask each table)
-Ok. Our purpose during the lesson is to draw the portrait of a modern teenager. We’ll speak about British and Russian teens and try to find the differences and similarities between them. Also we’ll speak about their qualities.
And now let’s start talking.
As far as I remember it’s not easy but rather interesting to be a teenager. You have a lot of opportunities and interests, of course, you have free time.
-How do you spend it? (student’s answers ..I usually…..)
-What types of music do you like? (I prefer..)
-What present would you like to get for your birthday? (I’d like to get….)
-Have you ever missed your classes to have more free time?(I’ve never missed my classes.)
-What style in clothes do you prefer? (I prefer…)
Speaking
Well done, students! And now let’s start the main part of our lesson.
I hope that you’ve known a lot about British teenagers’ life.
Our question is whose life is more interesting and full our life or theirs?
(slide 1) Look at Paul from Britain and Tanya from Russia.
What can you say about their every day life? (Explain to the teams their purpose.)
(Everybody write the short points in your ex-books)
1)Where do you spend most of your time?
British – at school
Russian – we spend 6 or 7 hours a day at school and then we go to extra classes, go for a walk, play games, meet our friends and so on.
2)How many subjects do you study?
British- we take between 5 or 10 subjects.
Russian- we must study 15-17 subjects. We can’t choose among them.
3)What about a uniform?
British- we must wear a uniform at school.
Russian- we haven’t very strict rules about the uniform. We must wear black and white but we can choose different models.
4)How do you judge your classmates?
British – by clothes
Russian- we pay attention to clothes but we also judge our classmates by their intelligence, knowledge and sense of humor.
5)What thing is the most important for you?
British- a mobile phone, of course
Russian- a mobile, a computer, plane-tables, musical instruments.
6)What is your main interest?
British- music
Russian- sport, music, films, games
T: And now let’s make a conclusion.
Whose life is more interesting. You should prove your opinion.
British- I prefer our life style, because we have strict rules about most of important things. We know what we must do and what we mustn’t do. It’s rather easy. We have everything for a happy life.
Russian- Our life is better. It’s more interesting and exiting. We have a lot of opportunities because we study different subjects in our school. We have more free time, more freedom with a uniform.
-And how about our third team? (-I prefer living in Britain because I want to learn English best, to talk to native speakers, to visit their cities, study different subjects in English. )
(-I prefer living in Russia because I like our nature, our language, our traditions. It’s my Motherland and I don’t want to live anywhere else for a long time. But it’s rather interesting to travel to different countries that’s why I should learn English.)
T- It’s your choice, thank you.
Vocabulary
It goes without saying that all of us have different characters and different qualities. We prefer different styles in clothes and so on.
When we look at somebody we usually try to guess what kind of person he or she is, don’t we?
Let’s remember people’s qualities.
-I can rely on her in any situation. (She is reliable.)
-He never does stupid things. (He is reasonable).
-She is interested in her job. (She is enthusiastic).
-His aim is to become successful, rich and famous. (He is ambitious).
-He always tells the truth. (He is honest).
Now let’s play a snowball game and train our memory. Let’s imagine a person, let it be a girl. Start from the British team. Every student will add one new word. Let’s check which team can keep more words in their memory.
(Every team make sentences like “She is chatty, bubbly, honest…” ets
The team which can remember more adjectives wins.)
(Students riddles.)
Well done, ladies and gentlemen! And now try to guess the qualities of the person looking at the face.
(Slides with boys and girls)
(Students should use the linking devices from the cards:
It seems to me that ….
In my view….
From my point of view….
To my mind ………
If I’m not mistaken ………
Personally, I think …………….
She/ he must be ………….
She/ he might be ……………
She/ he can’t be …………..
And now we get down to the most exiting part of our lesson. All of you had a task to draw the emblem of yourself. You haven’t showed your works to your classmates. You will see them now and try to guess whose emblem it is. (The teacher reads the qualities of the person.
(-It may (must) be Nastay’s emblem. She is fond of …. ) ets
(About Nastya: We met her last year and we can say that she is ….. To add to this she is a talented person. When I read the composition about her “ once a lifetime present” I got an idea: what if she play here, at the lesson. Today she’s got a surprise for you. Nasty, you are welcome!)
I think now some of you will look at her from the other side as a musician.
The results of the lesson.
Home task
You should write a short assay using the tables about life of British or Russian teens.
