Student I: Dear friends! Ladies and Gentlemen! You are welcome to our gathering dedicated to Saint Valentine’s Day, which will be held tomorrow on February 14th .
Student II: Love! Happiness! Beauty! There are not so many days in a year when we pronounce these pleasant words. Today we have an excellent chance to plunge into the atmosphere of love and affection.
Student I: February the fourteenth day
Is Saint Valentine’s they say.
We chose you from among the rest
The reason is: We love you best.
Student II: We hope this Valentine’s Day
Will bring you lots of fun.
We think you are extra-specially nice
And so is everyone.
Student I: It’s here again the day when boys and girls, sweethearts and lovers, husbands and wives, friends and neighbors, students and teachers exchange greetings of affection, undying love and compliment. To begin with let us sing a beautiful song about love. (A song)
Student II: We have pronounced the word “love” several times. But do you know what love is? We have asked our students to think of an answer. So, please, show us your answers, and tell us how you understand it. (The students show their cards and answer the question)
Student I: And now we want to show you what small children think about Love. (slide on the screen)
Student II: Love and poetry have always gone together hand in hand through ages. And today we are due to pay a tribute to the greatest poet of Love of all the times and nations. We are speaking about William Shakespeare. We can’t but mention him today as the whole world sings praise to him because this year 2016 is announced by UNESCO to be Shakespeare’s year. Great part of Shakespeare’s works were devoted to love, he glorified true love and friendship. Let’s listen to his sonnet 40 .(A sonnet)
Student I: And now let’s listen to the same Shakespeare’s sonnet sung by A. Pugachova.
Student II: Many quotes from Shakespeare’s works about love have become sayings.
Let us think of Russian equivalents to the sayings.(Work on the screen)
Student I: Love can speak for itself. You don’t need words to express love. Now you’ll see it. Waltz is a real dance of Love.(A dance)
Student II: Let us mention one more outstanding British poet Robert Burns, who was a remarkable lyric poet. In his verse he spoke from heart to heart, he presented his feelings with simplicity and always was sincere to the core. We invite you to listen to one of his poems sung by Aleksandr Gradsky. (A song) And now let us listen to the most famous poem about love by Robert Burns “Red Rose”. (A poem)
Student I: Red rose. It is one of the symbols of St Valentine’s Day. But roses of different colours have different meanings. So when you select roses for someone make sure you are sending the right message.Look at the screen!(A slide)
Student II: Now we invite 6 students from each form to take part in the next activity.
Student I: Let us see what words are most frequently pronounced on this day. Our students will form these words using letters on their backs. Well done! O.K! Right you are!
Student II: Let us recollect some other symbols of the day. Help us please:

Student I: Have you prepared and sent valentines to your friends, parents, teachers? If you haven’t done it yet you have some time to do it. Every February the 14th, across the whole world candies, flowers, gifts, cards are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine.
Student II: According to the Greeting Card Association one billion valentine cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. Approximately 85 percent of all valentines are purchased and sent by women.
Student I: We have a guest today. You are welcome Mr Postman.
Postwoman: Ladies and gentlemen! I’m your postman. I want to give my opinion on St. Valentine’s Day. You all think that cards should be sent on this day. Hundreds, thousands, millions of card are sent. Everybody loves everybody. Can you imagine the number of cards I have to deliver? Can you imagine how heavy my bag is? Can you imagine the distance I have to cover delivering your cards. I suggest that one shouldn’t love everybody. Each person should love only one person and send only one valentine card.
Besides, some of you are so absent-minded that you forget to write the address or at least the name of the addressee. Will you help me to find out who wrote these letters and who the addressees are.

Host: Look! One more young man is writing his love-letter.
Student II: Let’s return to poetry. Poets of different countries in different languages devoted their verses to this overwhelming feeling. Let’s listen to a poem written by our favourite A.Pushkin.(A poem)
The greatest poet of any nation is its people.
Student I: We invite you to sing a famous folk Belarusian song about love “Касіў Ясь канюшыну”. (a song)
Well done.
Student II: Now you’ll hear a poem about love in Polish.Adam Mitskevich. Girls, welcome.
Student I: The everlasting feeling of love has no boundaries. People loved, love and will always love each other. And the example of true love and famous couples, whom we know from history or from Literature. Let’s form these couples.(Work with a screen)
Student II: We wish you all to have if not a sweetheart but at least a fair devoted friend.
Student I: Love makes the world go round. It is one of the most complicated feelings. It can be cruel. It can bring tears to our lives. But at the same time it’s the most beautiful and inspiring fealing in the world.
Student II: Let’s make love our daily motto. Love will find a way. Love is in the air. Love is everywhere. Love and friendship go together.
Student I: Let’s finish our today’s gathering with a waltz of friendship. We invite everybody to join us. (A waltz)
Student II: Thank you, it was wonderful. Do you know who sang today for us. Let us thank them all.(
Student I: Let tomorrow’s St. Valentine’s Day bring all of you happiness and good luck.
Student II: Thank you all for being today with us. See you later.
