Many hardware devices, which also fit in to one of the categories above, are also known as peripheral devices.
These are devices which are not part of the main computer system, but are added on to increase the capabilities of the system.
For instance keyboards, mice, scanners, printers, external hard-drives and so on.

Peripherals are divided into three types:

DISCRIPTOR
knows the purpose of the output device
knows the purpose of input device
knows the purpose of storage device

an input device sends data or instructions to the computer, such as a mouse, keyboard, graphics tablet, image scanner, barcode reader, game controller, light pen, light gun, microphone, digital camera, webcam, dance pad, and read-only memory);

an output device provides output from the computer, such as a computer monitor, projector, printer, headphones, and computer speaker); and

an input/output device performs both input and output functions, such as a computer data storage device (including a disk drive, USB flash drive, memory card, and tape drive)

How to configure and remove a device in the operating system?

Follow these steps to remove and reinstall a device from Device Manager.
Press the Windows Logo + X key combination, and then click  Device Manager.

In the Device Manager window, double-click the category icon of the device to be removed.
Under the Device Manager category, click to select the device to be removed.
On the menu bar, click Action.
On the Action menu, click Uninstall.
In the Confirm Device Uninstall window, click the OK button.
In the Device Manager window, click the X in the upper-right corner to close the window.
