Earth Day

Earth Day was started in 1970 by a man named John Mc Connell from the United States. It was originally held on the annual celebration of the March Equinox and still is by many people. However, it is generally celebrated on April 22. Earth day is now celebrated worldwide.

Earth Day is a very special day specifically designed for all of us to think about earth issues. It is not only a special day in the town where we live, but a day that the whole world participates in! Often there are celebrations, events or campaigns that concern us with earth matters.

The Earth is a garden,

It's a beautiful place

For all living creatures,

For all the human race.

Helping Mother Earth,

We can peacefully roam.

We all deserve a place

We can call our home.

And we would like to thank you,

Mother Earth.

We'd like to see you dressed

In green and blue,

We want to be loved by you.

Pupil   The 22^nd of April is a very important day for people all over the world. We celebrate the Earth Day and we have desire to protect our planet and to make it the safest place to live, and turn it into a green park with lots of trees, bushes, grass, and flowers. We know that polluted air, land, and water are harmful to plants, animals and people.

We are caretakers of the Earth. So this day is for people. They have to learn how to keep our planet clean.

 "Dear brothers and sisters,

Take care of me. Don't cut the wild flowers. They may all disappear. Plant a tree a year. Remember, from one oak a forest grows. It is very simple. Never throw or break glass bottles. You damage the land. Take only what you need from me. You are my parts.

So, your challenge is to restore an ecological balance and to maintain me clean and healthy for future generations".

Pupil  The trees, the sky, the sea, the grass, the sand, the rocks, the wind, the rain — they are all the pieces of nature, the pieces of our home. And a human being is a part of the world, or the environment, which includes the things that surround us: air, water and land.

Pupil  Today we speak about the most valuable thing we have - our Earth, the planet that we live on, about our colourful world, the Earth - our home. The brightest colours of the world are not artifi­cial, but quite natural, produced by our colorful na­ture.

Green: I am the best, because I am the colour of grass and leaves.

Yellow: I am the best, because I am the colour of sun and wheat.

Red: I am the best, because I am the colour of berries.

Blue: I am the best, because I am the the colour of sky and water.

Black: I am the best, because I am the the colour of night.

White: I am the best, because I the colour of snow.

Brown:I am the best, because I am the colour of  bear and nuts.

The sun shines hot and high,

Baby birds now learn to fly.

Spring. I need blue, white and yellow colours, because they are the colours of my flowers. I cannot live without green colour, because I need it when grass appears.

Summer. I need yellow colour, because it is the colour of bright sun. I need blue col­our, because it is the colour of all ponds, rivers, seas, oceans. I need pink and red colours very much, because they are the colour of roses.

Autumn. And I, as Spring and Sum­mer, need colours. I need brown col­our, because it is the colour of nuts. And I need grey colour, because it is the colour of birds. I need orange colour, because it is the colour of pumpkins for Halloween.

WinterI also need colours, especially white, because you know that everything in winter is white. And I must say that I need black colour too, because it's the colour of black night winter sky.

Seasons (together). Help us, please, to return all colours to our life!

Colours. Of course, dear seasons. We are ready to help you. We love our colourful world, we like all seasons of the year, we like to draw very much, that's why we'll try to do everything to help you.

Pupil  There is nothing more important than nature. Garden is a symbol of nature that gives air to breathe, food, fruit and vegetables to eat, beauty to enjoy. A man will die if the nature dies.

T: What words do we use to describe our Earth?

PI - big.

P2 - beautiful.

P3 - round.

P4 - blooming.

T: Well done. Now look at this globe - this is our Earth.

What colours can you see on the globe?

PI - blue.

P2 - green.

P3 - yellow.

P4 - brown.

T: Where can we find blue colour?

    PI - in oceans and seas.

    P2 - in rivers and lakes.

    P3 - in streams and ponds.

T: Is there much water on the Earth?

PI: Yes, there is.

T: Let's see how much water the Earth has. Have a look at this apple and the globe. Are they similar in shape?

PI: Yes, they are almost similar.

T. Imagine that this apple is the Earth. If we cut the apple into four parts, three parts of it will be water and one part - land. (Assistants give white paper circles for each pupil). Take your pencils and divide the circles into 4 parts. Colour 3 parts of the circle in blue.

T: Let's divide the land (one part of the apple and every circle) into 2 parts - one is habitable - people can live there, and the other is inhabitable. Do you know why?

PI: There are high mountains and thick forests there. People can't live there.

T: You are right. Now if we divide the hab­itable part into 4 parts we shall receive a part of the Earth that gives food. If people destroy or make this part dirty, there won't be food for all living things. Can living things live without food?

P2: No, they can't. Are there other things without which people, animals and plants can't live?

P3: Yes, there are. They are: air and water. All living things need air, water and food.

T: Thank you. Now assistants will play with you (music).

Assistant 1. Imagine you are trees and plants in the forest . If you are a tree your hands will be branches. Open them wide. What are your feet then? They are roots. Now stretch your hands to the sun. When a tree stretches up what is it doing? It's growing. Now the wind is blowing. Your fingers will be leaves and they will tremble like this. (Shows). How do you feel being a tree?

PI: I like the forest, everything around me.

P2: I enjoy watching animals play.

P3: I am glad that I help to make the air fresh.

PI: I think, we must take our planet, cover it with green grass and add trees.

P2: Well, pour some rivers and lakes, and seas.

P3: Mix everything with bright flowers, mushrooms and berries.

P4: Then wash everything with light and warm rain.

P5: Fill the forests with animals and rivers with fish.

P6: Stir everything with a light wind.

P7: Sprinkle everything with the fresh smell of spring flowers.

P8: Put a wise and kind man to look after it and to live in it. And crown everything with a colourful rain­bow.

T: Our colourful world is ready. Serve it fresh, clean and peaceful. Good luck!
