1. Introduction.

All people like to travel. Different excursions help to learn more about the history and culture of the country, its customs, traditions, memorials and monuments. So if you get a chance to take a sightseeing tour around the city, be sure to settle for a tour if you want to learn more information about the country and its people. Today, almost every city in the world, which is visited by large number of tourists and travelers guided tours are available in English. Even in our country in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities, you can easily sign up and take part in a guided tour in English.

Actuality.

Volgograd  is known all over the world as the city where during the Second World War the Nazi invaders were stopped by the Soviet army. At that time Volgograd was known as Stalingrad. For 200 days and nights a battle was fought for every inch of the Volga land. But the city held out and won. There was practically nothing left of the city. It layer in ruins. The whole country participated in the restoration of the hero-city.

You can see different places, connected with Stalingrad Battle. Everybody in the world knows the monument to the Motherland, the Pavlov’s House, the central railway station and others.

Volgograd is one of 11 cities across the country selected to host the matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, it is ready for the global football championship. I’m sure you are the football fans and you want to see all matches of Mondial.

In 2018, our city will be visited by the tourists from different countries of the world. Therefore, the creation of a small Hiking excursions very relevant today.

Task.

To tell tourists about the history of our city, about his heroic past and the people who gave their lives to bring victory over the enemy.

Methods.

In the process of working on the project I have applied the methods of analyzing and comparing material from a variety of sources: dictionaries, encyclopedias, scientific articles and my classmates were surveyed.

2.           Main Part

1. Dear friends. We are glad to see you in our city. As you know Volgograd is one of the beautiful cities of our country. It is situated on the south-east part of Russia on the Volga River. Volgograd, an important industrial, commercial, and transshipment center of Russia, is a railroad center and a major Volga River port.

2. During this walking tour we will pass through one of the most beautiful parks in the city  on the street of Marshal Chuikov from the Panorama-museum of Stalingrad Battle along the famous tank towers symbolizing the defensive line, where German troops were stopped to the monument to the victims of the bombing of Stalingrad on 23 August 1942, You will learn little-known facts from the history of the heroic defense of our city.

3. The descent from the Panorama-museum down to the Volga leads to the wall of Rodimtsev.  In the middle of September, 1942, the 13th division commanded by Alexander Rodimtsev landed there on the coast and pushed the enemy troops from the banks of the Volga. It was one of the decisive moves in the battle of Stalingrad.
By the end of the war, when the victory of the Soviet troops had already been determined, a commemorative inscription was made on the wall: "Here guards Rodimtsev stood to death ", which was later supplemented by the lines – "having stood, we have conquered death". Huge black letters were visible far outside the city.
In the future the authorities plan to build there a military-historical complex and install next to this wall a bust of the legendary major-General.

4. Not far from the wall there is a monument to the heroic sailors of the Volga flotilla. The armored boat «BK-13" was installed on the pedestal in the memory of their deeds. This boat participated in the defense of Stalingrad, and then in the storming of Berlin. The monument was opened on 7 May 1995 for the 50th anniversary of the Victory. The memorial consists of a pedestal mounted on the armored boat "BK-13», the bust of a military sailor, perched over the river on a high pillar, and stele with the inscription "To the heroes of the Volga flotilla". The designer is Yuri Benois.

In the terrible battle of Stalingrad, the sailors showed heroism and courage, fighting with the invaders. The flotilla helped the red Army, launched an assault, transported troops, weapons, ammunition and supplies into the city, and took out from Stalingrad wounded, women and children.

Today, the city has the traditional meetings of students, sailors, war veterans, representatives of the Marine Corps on the Volga River near the armored BK-13 during the Navy Day.

5. And now we offer you to walk along Square garden along the Chuikov Street. Let’s go. You can stroll, roller skate, sit on the benches and engage in morning jogs. To the right there are houses, several interesting cafes, exhibition hall of the Museum of fine arts. To the left you can see the Volga through the trees. This street was named in honor of Vasily Ivanovich Chuikov. Chuikov was a Soviet lieutenant general in the Red Army during World War II, a commander of the 62nd Army during the Battle of Stalingrad, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, and after the war a Marshal of the Soviet Union.

6. In the Park among well-tended walkways there is the monument to Marshal of the Soviet Union Vasiliy Ivanovich Chuykov who said "There is a huge Russian city, which was given my heart... It went down in history as Stalingrad». The monument stands in a green Park. From a distance you cannot see and pass by it. It is situated around the tall trees. Surprisingly, the monument was made by the son of Chuikov.

7. Let's go a little further in the Park and you will see another monument associated with the Great Patriotiс war.

It is one of the Tank Towers, installed at the point most maximum approach of the enemy to the banks of the Volga (there are 17 tank turrets in our city). This is a fragment of a unique monument "Line of defense of the 62nd Army" with a length of over 30 km. It is the only complex of such extent in Europe. It is dedicated to the soldiers who managed to survive on the banks of the Volga, and then by going on the offensive, to defeat the enemy.

8. Let’s go to the last monument of our excursion. Volgograd is the symbol of the heroism. During World War II, Stalingrad, a strategically located industrial center, was a vital German objective. For 200 days and nights the thunder of battle continued during the Great Patriotic War. The destiny of the country and of all humanity was decided in this region. The struggle was for every home, for every street. The city was ruined.

There are some places in Volgograd, which are closely connected with the events of this War and with the Great Stalingrad Battle. This battle couldn’t be compared to anything in the history of the world. Stalingrad Battle was destined to be one of the most tragic and, within this, one of the most important pages in the history of the Great Patriotic War.

9. One of these monuments is a Monument to civilians who died in the battle of Stalingrad. This monument is very impressive. It is the monument to the peaceful inhabitants of Stalingrad who died in the first day of the bombing – August 23, 1942. More than 12 thousand bombs were dropped all over the city, 42 thousand buildings were destroyed. On this day about 40 thousand of old men, women, children were killed. 70 thousand of people were serious injured.

A monument to the civilians of Stalingrad was opened on the 9th of May, 1995 in memory of those killed in the terrible days of the bombing. You can see a hung Nazi air bomb above children and women, frozen in the fire of Stalingrad. On the pedestal you can read the inscription: "To the civilian population, who died in the battle of Stalingrad". The authors of this monument are the honored Russian architect Valentin Petrovich Kalinichenko and sculptor Nadezhda Pavlovskaya.

The heroic deed, made in Stalingrad, shall remain in our memory forever. This surely was not only the heroism of the soldiers, who had defended the city, but also it was the heroism of the citizens of Stalingrad, who had performed the reconstruction works there.

10. Our excursion is over. After visiting our city, we hope you will have an unforgettable impression. The hero-city is waiting for you to show you all of its power and beauty.

Thank you very much for your attention.

3.           Conclusion

Volgograd is a dynamically developing touristic center.  Annually Volgograd welcomes on its territory up to half a million tourists. Volgograd is a heroic city. It is necessary to remember the history of our city, our country, that future generations may live in peace without wars.

I also would like to continue the research for this topic.

This is the exact place where in September 1942, Major General A. Rodimtsev’s 13th Guards Division disembarked to play a crucial role in the defense of Stalingrad. An inscription on the wall says: “Here stood till death Rodimtsev’s 13th Guards Division”.
