-In this class we will review the parts of a supporting paragraph in a source-based essay. We will review how to integrate outside evidence into a supporting paragraph. We will review from previous classes the requirements for in-text citations of outside sources when paraphrasing and quoting. We will focus on connecting evidence explanation sentences between topic sentence and the evidence itself with an emphasis to add background information and avoid dumping evidence in a supporting paragraph.

The teacher will use the Document Camera/computer to project the textbook pp. 79 to 85. As a class, the teacher will review the parts of a supporting paragraph for a sourcebased essay from quoting/paraphrasing to documenting sources with in-text citations to introducing the evidence to adding connecting explanation sentences and ending with concluding sentences. The teacher will focus on an example supporting paragraph with evidence from p. 84 of the textbook by pointing out the role of each sentence in the paragraph: topic, connecting explanation, evidence, connection explanation, and concluding sentence.

Assessment Homework x W Students will write the first supporting paragraph for their source-based essay following the format from the textbook and class. Students will upload the supporting paragraph to Blackboard. |
