Language objective
|
Useful set(s) of phrases for dialogue/writing. (i) The greater the magnitude of the current flowing through a conductor the greater the magnetic field (ii) Electromagnets are classified as temporary or artificial magnets (iii) The strength of an electromagnet is directly proportional to current flowing and number coil turns (iv) Electromagnets have an iron core, which helps to give it more strength

Magnets and types of magnets Power Presentation1 “Artificial magnets” What is solenoid? Power Presentation1 “Solenoid”
Teacher Activity: Power Presentation and white board used to introduce terms relating to magnetic fields in relation to electromagnet construction. Students activity: Students take notes and ask questions in an interactive way between students and teachers. Teacher Activity: Practical activity work sheets handed out to students and instructed to work in groups of two (5-6 groups). Then instructed to gather the necessary materials /equipment needed to construct and test their completed electromagnets. Advise and informationwillbe given to students on how to construct their devices. How to make an Artificial Magnet?
Student Activity: The individual groups assemble electromagnets using the materials provided, in accordance with given practical work sheet instructions. Teacher Activity: Students ability to construct devices continually monitored including how well they can organize and work together as a team.
Teacher Activity: Students then instructed on how to take measurements of electrical current flowing through coil in order for them to measure attractive force capabilities of their constructed electromagnets . Student Activity They counting number paper clips picked up by their magnets and finding their mass using a 2 place decimal electronic balance.
Student Activity :Students vary current flowing through their electromagnet devices, and experiment with using different solenoid coil turns (N) to access the affect on their electromagnetic force strengths

All Students : Can recall terms and apply basic understanding of artificial and permanent magnets. Solve problems with assistance from teacher.
Intermediate ; Students can solve most of the tasks/problems relating to both electromagnets permanent magnets with minimal supervision.
Advanced: students can solve the most challenging tasks relating to all aspects of electromagnetism without assistance.
|
The students can explain without help solve different kinds of activities on solving practical problems, describe clearly solve problems methodically. Activity Assessment Discussion: Solicit, integrate and summarize student responses. Review with students optics principles Make sure everyone understands the concept electromagnetism. After students have finished the worksheet, have them compare answers with their peers. Discuss as a class. |
During the lesson ensureclassroom is well ventilated and has good lighting, lab safety rules given. |
