Вступительное слово учителя: Dear boys and girls! We are glad to see you at our school meeting today. Our presentation will tell you about famous Russian
traditions and customs, Russian culture. You know, Russian people have a lot of them. And one of them is the Festival of Cucumber . Have you heard about it? (Дети в зале отвечают: No, we haven’t)
Teacher: Well, let’s look at the screen and read a saying: «Кто в Суздале не бывал, тот огурчик не едал» What do you know about a cucumber ?
Дети в зале отвечают: It is green. It is tasty, it is grown everywhere.
Teacher: Right you are. But what is its history?
P1: The last Cucumber Festival took place in Suzdal, in the Museum of Wooden Architecture in July, 2013. This is only the fifth year that the Celebration of the Cucumber has taken place in The Museum of Wooden Architecture and Peasant Life, but it has won the hearts of the people. P2: Every year more and more people make an effort to attend the Cucumber Festival. This year the Cucumber Festival was attended by more then 14,000 people (twice as many as last year). And it was worth to attend! P3: What do we know about cucumbers? It seems that cucumber is neither a fruit nor a vegetable, but rather a berry and not a ripe one at that. The Russian word for cucumber («ogurets») comes from its Ancient Greek name «agouru» , which literally means «unripe». P4: The cucumber first took root in India. It was cultivated there 7 thousand years ago. Nobody knows when it first appeared in Russia. It is known that in the region of Vladimir it was grown 5-7 centuries ago, other worlds, a long enough time ago that we may consider the cucumber inherently Russian! (На сцену выходят дети с шарами, в костюмах «огурца». Так называемый парад костюмов. Каждый участник проходит по сцене). P5: I am from Italy. Look at me! I am not so long. We are short and fat. P: I am from France… (Далее представляются «огурцы» из Испании, Америки и т.д.)
Teacher: Well, let us have a Cucumber Parade. Lots of guests and tourists from the U.S.A., France, Spain and other countries came to Suzdal to greet the hero of the festivity: the Suzdal Cucumber. P6: Every guest of the Festival likely found amusements of his taste: epicures appreciated cucumber delicacies, while the strongest and boldest took part in games and amusements. The youngest guests of the Festival learned to pickle cucumbers and saw the absorbing performance, «The Adventures of the Suzdal Cucumber in the Thick Forest». (На экране показаны фестивали «огурца» в разных странах. Показ слайдов сопровождается комментариями). Р1.Lots of people took part in the festivals :market-gardeners from the towns of Murom and Vyazniky, which are also famous for their cucumbers, gave not only an interesting presentation about the development of market-gardening in their regions, but also composed the excellent folk-group «Vishenka». P2: In «The Cucumber Yard» , the best folk-groups of the Vladimir region presented the guests of the Festival with Russian songs and dances.
«The Cucumber Exhibition» presented the hero of the Festival in various forms: wood, clay, glass, yellow and green as a real Suzdal cucumber. «The Cucumber Auction» was considered to be the culmination of the Festival. P3: A particularly important prize in the festival was set aside for the most remarkable cucumber costume. The travel agency «Vladinvesttur» awarded 12-year-old Sveta Pshenitsina with the top prize. It was impossible to miss her elegant, touching Cucumber Fairy costume in the celebratory cucumber parade. Prizes were also given to the gardener who grew the longest cucumber. P4: According to the tradition a huge balloon a huge balloon carried the symbol of the Festival the Green Cucumber far away into the sky. However, it is eager to return to Suzdal, to the next Cucumber Festival, which will be held in Suzdal next July! You’ll be sure to have a grand time with our famous Suzdal Cucumber!
Teacher: Boys and girls, now we are going to have a «Quiz!»
