I. Вступительное слово учителя
Dear girls and boys, we’ve already learnt some things about Great Britain such as its population, the climate, the educational system, some facts from its history. But today we'll also speak about the British political system and compare it with our system. Whether we want or not but politics is part of our lives. So today we’ll spend one lesson in the British Parliament. It’s a rather difficult topic, that’s why we have an unusual lesson today. Now we’ll visit the Palace of Westminster. Look at the screen. (presentation)До новых слов.

3Установите соответствие между заголовками 1-4 и текстами A-D . Занесите свои ответы в таблицу. Используйте каждую цифру только один раз. В задании один заголовок лишний
1 The oldest part of the Palace of Westminster.
2 The Queen’s speech
3 Two lines
4 The funny tradition.
5 The famous Woolsack
i.
A That cushion is the famous Woolsack. There is wool inside it. It’s a part of a very old tradition which started in the 14th century. It was put in parliament to symbolize the importance of wool to the British economy at that time. The person who usually sits on the woolsack is the Lord Chancellor. He presides over the House of Lords.
B The House of Commons is the place where MPs make decisions on new laws. There are 2 statues, one on each side of the arch. Both of these two men were Prime Ministers. One is David Lloyd George, the other Sir Winston Churchill. They represented the two main British political parties – the Labour Party and the Conservative Party. MPs have a tradition: if you are a Conservative, touch Churchill’s shoe, if you’re a Labour, touch Lloyd George’s shoe.
C Can you see two res lines on the floor in front of the benches on each side of the Chamber? That’s also a part of a tradition. The distance between these two lines is two swords’ lengths. In the old days when MPs used to carry swords, it was dangerous if they got angry with each other. So these two lines are to remind MPs that they shouldn’t start a fight, and they can’t go over this line when they are speaking in a debate.
D Westminster Hall is the oldest part of the Palace of Westminster, and it’s more than a thousand years old. The son of William the Conqueror… Do you remember the Norman leader who won the Battle of Hastings? Well, it was his son who started the building of the hall. This building has seen a lot of famous events. In 1605 Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament, and in World War II bombs fell on it

3Рассказ о Британском Парламенте
The British Parliament consists of 2 Houses: The House of Lords and the House of Commons. There are 2 parties in GB: Labour Party and Conservative Party. The Queen appoints the Prime Minister from the members of the party which has the majority in the House of Commons (the members of it are called MPs-members of Parliament), not from the House of Lords (It’s members are called Peers). And the Prime Minister appoints ministers for his Cabinet. The Government rules the Country, The Queen’s role is nominal. She acts according to the advice of the Prime Minister. The members of the House of Commons work on the bill, which goes then to the House of Lords. And only after that the queen gives the Royal assent (королевскую санкцию) and the bill becomes a law.
Our president is above all branches of power. He is the guarantor of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, of rights and liberties of our people. The Federal Assembly consists of 2 Houses: the upper House is the Federal Council of the Federal Assembly and the State Duma of the Federal Assembly ( members of it are called deputies).

What does the Queen do the bill to become the law? (She must approve the bill passed by the Parliament) Is there a constitution in GB?) Do you agree that our president has got more power than the Queen of GB? ( The monarch is only the symbol of nation's unity while the President has got the right to preside at the meetings of the government. He himself appoints the chairman of the government.
