the author of the famous book “The Lord of the
Rings” and many others, who created his own
fairytale world in his books.

1) John Tolkien is a famous English writer.

2) He was born in the end of the 19th century, in 1892.

3) At school Tolkien was fond of languages, but not just
modern languages – he also liked ancient languages.
He spoke six ancient languages and even made his own
languages.

4) At Oxford University he studied English language and literature.

5) John R.R. Tolkien became an outstanding linguist.

6) He became famous, however, when his books were published. He wrote
several books “The Hobbit”, “The Lord of the Rings” etc. In his books
John R.R. Tolkien describes a fairytale world, were Hobbits, magicians,
elves and warriors live.

7) John R.R. Tolkien died in 1973.

Charles Darwin

1) Charles Darwin is a well-known scientist.

2) The scientist Charles Darwin was born at the beginning of
19th century, in 1809.

3) As a boy Charles collected all kinds of things, minerals,
bird’s eggs, insects . He carried out chemical experiments in
the school garden. His nickname was “Gas”.

4) After three years of study at Cambridge University he made a
voyage round the world. During the five years voyage he studied
many different kinds of plants and animals in all parts of the
world.

5) Little by little Darwin made up his famous theory.

6) His theory of evolution opened a new period in the development
of the science of biology, the Darwinian period.

7) Charles Darwin died in 1882 and was buried in Westminster
Abbey.
