Presentation of the new vocabulary: Activity 1: Brainstorm around the word “Professions”. Task: name all the professions you know. Activity 2: Introducing the vocabulary.  Learners are going to learn the new words. Task: learn the new words on the theme. Task: mime/ give the definition of the words for others to guess. Descriptor:  ­ Choose a word  ­ Mime/ give the definition. ­ Guess. Differentiation:  For weaker learners the teacher gives the task to mime the word. For more able learners – to give the definition. Formative Assessment:  Teacher hands out each learner worksheet 1.  Allow learners time to match the words. Assessment criteria: Recognize the names of the professions.  Task: Match the words with the pictures. Listening. Activity 4: “Guess my job”  Learners are going to hear a radio quiz programme called  “Guess my job”. There are three contestants who can ask  ten questions and then have to guess the mystery guest’s  job. Task: listen to a radio quiz programme and try to understand: Descriptor:  ­ Look through the questions  ­ Try to understand unknown words from the pictures and the  content. ­ Listen to the 1st part of the programme and underline the  questions you hear (10 questions) Peer and group assessment. ­ Check the task with the peers of your group.  ­ Check the task with the whole class.  Teacher asks learners about Phil’s answer and elicit that  he can only answer yes, no or it depends. ­ Listen again and write the answers Y, N, D after each question. ­ Check answers. Assessment: Think­Pair­Share (Think­Pair­Square­Share). Assessment criteria: make basic statements. ­ Think and try to guess the job. ­ Discuss your ideas with a partner, then with another pair. ­Share your ideas with the others.  Teacher gets feedback but doesn’t tell the right  answer. ­ Listen to the end of the show. ­ Make guesses and find out the guest’s job.  Teacher gives oral feedback after the listening task. 10 min Speaking. Activity 5: Role­play. Worksheets  Learners are going to do a role­play. The teacher divides  the learners into groups of four like in the radio  programme­ one guest and three contestants.  Task: role­play “Guess my job” Descriptor:  ­ choose the profession from the list of the new words. ­ ask questions (you can use the questions from the listening task) ­ guess the job Differentiation:  Weaker learners can ask questions from the listening task. More able learners – ask their own questions. Teacher’s assessment: Teacher gives oral feedback after the  speaking task. Assessment criteria: Ask and answer questions Reflection:   Learners give feedback to each other on the lesson. It’s done in oral form.  Final teacher’s feedback. Differentiation will be done by task for weaker and more able students  in asking questions; by support  from the teacher, peers and  worksheets; by assessment criteria.
