Kind Polite Attractive Fair Honest Capable Legal Relevant Unkind Impolite Unattractive Unfair Dishonest Incapable Illegal Irrelevant IV. Running a discussion TEACHERWell done. Dear friends! You’ve  read a lot of stories, done a lot of exercises on  our topic. Let’s  refresh our mind. Explain, please , the phrase’ FAMILY TIES’. The phrase FAMILY TIES’ means close  connections or relationships between people  within the same family. FAMILY TIES HAVE BECOME WEAKER  OVER THE PAST  FIFTY YEARS. Why is it so? A lot of people divorce today. Every  sixth  family is divorced in Bashkortostan. The alcohol, unemployment,  hatred and   indifference to each  other, drugs are the main  reasons of the divorce. A lot of families have  got  one or two children. TeacherFamilies are different. Will you  describe how families can be different? StudentsLarge families, small families, one parent family etc. CLOSE  FAMILY EXTENDED FAMILY TeacherWhich family members would you put into each category? CLOSE  FAMILY  refers  to those family  members to whom you are directly related, for  example, a parent, a child, brother or sister. EXTENDED FAMILY refers to those  family  members outside the close family and includes   grandparents, cousins and aunts and uncles. ‘IT TAKES ALL SORTS TO MAKE A  WORLD’ TeacherWill you explain  how you understand this phrase? StudentsIt refers to the fact that  people can  be very different from each other. This also  applies to familiesevery family, like every  individual, is unique in its own way. V. DISCUSSIONS OF THE THEME IN  GROUPS. WHAT IS A FAMILY? TeacherLet’s discuss this question in groups.  Will you choose the group leaders, please. Are you ready? The 1st group leader It seems like an easy question, but in many  societies  today  it is in fact a very difficult  question to answer. In the past, the family meant a married couple  living together with the children, and perhaps  the grandparents, too. Today, though,   marriages often don’t last very long. The  number  of divorced parents is increasing, and  children have parents who were never married at all. The 2nd group leader We agree with the first group. But there’s  another side, too. It’s more common for people  to get remarried. Partners often  to have  children from earlier marriages, which means  that their children need to get used to living  together as stepbrothers or sisters. As  society  changes, the whole idea of ‘the family’ is  changing with it. TeacherThank you, children. I’m absolutely   convinced that you are right. It’s time to round up our discussions. VI. REVISION OF GRAMMAR:PRESENT  SIMPLE, PRESENT CONTINUOUS.  .CHECKING THE READING SKILLS AND WORKING ON THE COMPUTERS AT  HOME.Teacher There’s a very interesting   story about  Anthony’s family on CDROM. In order to check your grammar and reading  skills you worked on the computes  at  home.Which group will be the best? Find 10  mistakes in the text of exercise  2,Grammar,Unit 1, correct them and read the  story  one by one. Anthony’s parents are divorced, but he isn’t  feeling sad about that  anymore.’ It was  difficult at first,’ says 12 year old  Anthony,’  but I get used to it now.’ He is living with his mum in a small village  outside Birmingham, in the house where he  grew up, but he is seeing a lot of his dad, too. That’s because Anthony’s mum and dad are  working togetherthey are running a small  travel agents. ‘Lots of people are thinking that’s odd,’ says  Anthony,’ but living together and working  together are very different things. They are getting on really well at  work. They’re good  friends, in fact. But I guess they aren’t loving  each other like they used to.’ But Anthony is philosophical about it.’It  sounds strange,’ he says,’ but I begin to think  our lives are better this way.’ Anthony’s parents are divorced, but he doesn’t feel sad about that  anymore.’ It was difficult  at first,’ says 12 year Anthony,’but I’m getting  used to it now. He lives with his mum in a small village outside Birmingham, in the house where he grew up,  but he sees a lot of  his dad, too. That’s because Anthony’s mum and dad work  togetherthey run a small travel agents. ‘Lots of people think that’s odd,’ says  Anthony,’ but living together and working  together are very different things. They get on  really well at work. They’re good friends, in  fact. But I guess they don’t love each other like  they used to.’ But Anthony is philosophical  about it.’ It  sounds  strange,’ he says,’ but I’m  beginning to think our lives are better this way.
