Nowadays people can’t imagine their kitchen without a refrigerator. The first refrigerators appeared at the end of the 18th century. They looked different: they were just iceboxes. The refrigerators of the past were just wooden boxes, sometimes lined inside with metal. People put ice into the box and then placed the food inside to keep it cool. The refrigerator, similar to the one that we have now, was produced by General Electric in 1911, in France. It was very expensive. In those days, with the same money you could buy two cars. Today, in developed countries almost every family has enough money to buy a refrigerator for their kitchen. It’s hard to imagine how difficult and uncomfortable our lives would be without a refrigerator.

1.        How many lessons do you usually have?

At school I usually have 6 lessons a day.

2.        What subject do you find the most difficult?

I find chemistry very difficult because it is boring and hard for me.

3.        What is your favourite weekday? Why do you like it?

We go to school  6 days a week. My favourite weekday is Saturday because I have Technology and PE and it’s really great. Also, the breaks are shorter this day and I can leave school at 1 pm.

4.        What sports facilities do you have in your school?

We have good sports facilities at school. There’s a gym on the first floor and a playground in front of the school and we can try many different sports in our physical education classes.

5.        Do you think the school uniform is necessary or not? Why do you think so?

In my opinion, it is really necessary for students to wear a uniform because it helps them to focus on lessons.

I believe that wearing a uniform is not necessary because it doesn’t allow students to express their individuality.

What would you recommend your friends to improve their English?

There are a lot of useful things you can do to improve your English. You can borrow English books from the library and read them, watch English films, have a pen friend and write letters to him, use educational computer programmes  or go to an English –speaking country and talk to native speakers.

You are going to give a talk about the Internet. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.

Remember to say:

o   why using the Internet is so popular;

o   how the Internet can help students in their studies;

o   whether the Internet can be dangerous, and why.

I’d like to give a talk about the Internet because it’s an interesting and actual topic in our life.

The Internet is so popular nowadays because it has got something for everyone. For example, my mum uses the Internet to buy clothes online.  She likes shopping online because it’s cheap and easy. My dad uses the Internet to send e-mails. He writes e-mails for work and to his friends. I use the Internet to get information. It helps me with my homework. In my free time I like sharing photos with my friends and downloading movies. (downloading some music, playing games)

We use the Internet a lot at school. We have a big computer room. We have computer classes. In our computer class we learn how to write computer programs. We also use the Internet in our English class to watch videos in English. We sometimes use the Internet in art class, too. We learn how to make our own websites. And we also use the Internet in our history class. We go online and find information. I like the Internet. It is very useful.

On the other hand, the Internet can be dangerous. Firstly, you  need to have antivirus software to protect your computer. Secondly, you should take care what information you share and with whom because there are many dishonest people on social networking sites who can even steal money from you. Moreover, you shouldn’t spend too much time sitting in front of the computer screen. This is very unhealthy and, as a result, you may become overweight.

In conclusion, I would like to say that, if you are careful, the Internet can be a great form of entertainment and communication.
