The carrot is a root vegetable which consists mostly of water and sugar. The carrots that we eat today originated from the wild ones which grew in Europe and Asia. The vegetable tasted sweet and the people began to use it as food.

There are two main types of carrots. There are eastern carrots that have dark purple roots and western carrots with orange roots. In fact, orange carrots first appeared in Europe in 1721. Dutch farmers selected orange carrots because orange is the colour of the Dutch Royal Family. Now orange carrots are widely grown all over the world. In modern households carrots are cooked and eaten in different ways. The vegetable is boiled, fried, baked and eaten raw. People also make juice from it.

3.        What clubs or societies can you attend in your school?

There are several clubs in my school where you can do something different from normal lessons and it’s entertaining. They are a sports club, a computer club and a gardening club. School clubs help students learn new skills such as playing different types of games, using computer programs and growing  your own flowers. Besides, by joining a club you can meet new people and develop long lasting relationships.

At my school we have a performance twice a year. Everyone in the whole school takes part and all the parents and teachers come to see it. It’s a very important occasion.

You are going to give a talk about TV. You will have to start in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes.

Remember to say:

o   whether watching TV is still a popular pastime with teenagers, and why, or why not;

o   how many hours a week you watch TV;

o   what you dislike most about TV.

I’d like to give a talk about TV because this topic is part and parcel of our life.

Watching TV is still a popular pastime with teenagers for many reasons. Firstly, TV channels show a great variety of educational programmes that can help teenagers with schoolwork.  Secondly, television is a good source of relaxation for teenagers because they can enjoy watching their favourite cartoons, talent shows and comedies. Finally, sometimes by watching TV teenagers can find out what interests them and what type of work they want to do in the future.

As for me, I usually watch TV for an hour a day to find out what is happening in the world or to relax after a long day. So, on average, I would say, I spend six to seven hours per week watching TV. (I usually watch TV for an hour in the evenings when I have done my homework to relax after a long day. So, on average, I would say, I spend six to seven hours per week watching TV.) (As for me, I usually watch TV for an hour during the weekends when I have a lot of free time to relax after a long week. So, on average, I would say, I spend two to three hours per week watching TV).

I don’t like watching commercials on television. I find them silly and boring because they often give untrue information. What’s more, I think it’s very annoying when a film stops at the most interesting moment.

All in all, thanks to TV we get a great amount of information and it would be difficult for me not to have a television at home.
