Bremen Town Musicians

Narrator:

Once upon a time, there lived a young man who decided to go to the town of Bremen and become a town musician there.

He was going across the field when he suddenly heard the braying of a donkey.

Donkey: Hee-haw, hee-haw, hee-haw! I had carried sacks of corn to the mill for many years. When I grew old and became unfit for work my owner decided to get rid of me. This is so unfair: What should I do? Hee-haw, hee-haw, hee-haw!

Y.M: Come with me to Bremen! You have such a strong voice. You can become a town musician.

Narrator:

The donkey agreed and they continued their journey together.

They were approaching a small village when they saw a dog running very fast.

Y.M: What has happened to you? You look so scared!

 Dog: Woof-woof. Woof-woof. Woof-woof.I ran away from my owner because he wanted to kill me. He does not need me any longer. I am old and weak. I can’t hunt.

Y.M: We are going to Bremen to become musicians there. I will play the guitar.

Donkey: I will sing .Hee-haw, hee-haw. And you can play the drums!

Dog: Playing the drums!!! Thank you! My legs are strong enough to beat the drums! I am going to Bremen with you!

Young Man: Can you hear this sound? Listen! There is somebody in the bushes. Let’s go and see.

Dog: Look! There is a cat.

Narrator:

The cat was hiding in the grass. His meowing was so weak and so sad that the Young Man, the Donkey and the Dog decided to help him.

Young Man: You look so miserable! What is wrong with you?

Donkey: Are you hungry?

Dog: Are you lost?

Young Man: Did wild animals scare you to death? We want to help you.

Cat: I am now getting old. My teeth are weak. I can’t catch mice and rats like I used to do. My owner wants to drown me in the river. That’s why I ran away. Now I don’t know what to do. I don’t know where to go. Meo-Meo-Meo….

Young Man: Come with us to Bremen. You can be a town musician! I will play the guitar!

Donkey: I will sing

Dog: I will play the drums

All together: And you will play the flute!

Narrator:

The Cat was very happy to join the band.

After this, the four of them came to a farmyard where a rooster was sitting on the gate.

Rooster: Cock-a-doodle-doo! Cock-a-doodle-doo! Cock-a-doodle-doo! Cock-a-doodle-doo!

Young Man, Donkey, Dog and Cat together:

What is the matter with you?

Rooster:

My owner wants to cook rooster soup for his guests. I am going to die tomorrow morning. They are going to cut my head off and cook me!

Young Man:

How horrible!

Donkey:

Come with us!

Dog:

We are going to Bremen to become town musicians there!

Cat:

You have a beautiful voice! Would you like to come with us?

Rooster:

I would be delighted! Thank you so much! This is my only chance to escape!

Narrator:

So, they continued their journey together and soon reached the town of Bremen. They went to the Town Square and started performing in front of the King’s Palace.(фоногр па-ба)

 People liked the performance very much. The cheering of the crowd was so loud that the King decided to go out to the balcony of his Palace to check what was going on. The Princess with her maids followed him.

Princess: Oh, look! Street musicians!(луч солнца золотого- фоногр)

1^st Maid: Your Highness, what a beautiful song!

Princess: Oh, I love the song!

2^nd Maid: Your Highness, what a handsome young man!

3^rd  Maid: He is looking at you!

1^nd Maid: He is singing this song for you!

Narrator:

The eyes of the Princess and the Young Musician met and they immediately fell in love with each other.

2^nd  Maid: Your Highness, he is in love with you!

3^rd  Maid: I think her Highness fell in love with him too.

Princess: I love him with all my heart!

1^st Maid: They will get married and live happily ever after!

2^nd Maid and 3^rd Maid: Oh, this is so sweet!

King: Oh no, no, no, no! My daughter is in love with a street musician!5 princes  asked for her hand! She didn’t want to marry any of them!

Princess: Oh, Father, I love him so much, I want to be with him forever!

Young Man: Your Majesty, I want to ask for your permission to marry your daughter.

King: How dare you! My daughter is a Princess and you are a street musician! I will never allow it in my life! Guards, take them away! Now!

And you…Keep away from my palace and from my daughter!!!

Narrator:  The musicians had to leave the town of Bremen. In the evening, they came to a forest where they decided to spend the night. The rooster flew to the top of the tree, looked around and saw a little spark of light in the distance.

Rooster: Hey, there must be a house not far from here! I can see light in the

distance!

Donkey: I am hungry

Dog: I am cold

Cat: I am tired

Young man: Let’s go and find the house. We need shelter and food!

Narrator: So they made their way to the house where robbers were hiding. The musicians decided to scare the robbers away.

Robber 1: we are going to have a hard day tomorrow.

Robber 2: We’ll attack the royal coach

Robber 3: We’ll kill the guards

Robber 1: and rob the King

All together: we are going to have a lot of money! Money! Money!

Donkey: Cock-a-doodle-doo! Cock-a-doodle-doo! Cock-a-doodle-doo! Cock-a-doodle-doo!

Dog: meo-meo-meo!

Rooster: Hee-haw, hee-haw, hee-haw!

Cat: Woof-woof. Woof-woof. Woof-woof!

Narrator: At this horrible noise the robbers ran away.

Young man: Listen, I have a plan how to marry the Princess . I need your help. You have to pretend that you are robbers and you want to hurt the King. And I will pretend I am saving his life!

Donkey: What a smart plan! The King will be grateful to you for saving him!

Dog, Cat, Rooster: And he will let you marry his daughter!

Narrator:  In the morning they were ready to bring their plan to life.

The musicians attack the royal coach and tie up the king.

King: Help! Help! Help!!!!!

The young man saves the king

King: You saved the life of your King. Now you can ask for any favour in return! Ask for anything!!!!

Young Man: Your majesty, I love the Princess and  I want to marry her. I want to spend the rest of my life with her.

Narrator: The king was so happy to be alive that he decided to bless the marriage of the princess and the street musician.

The King and the Young man go back to the palace. The King blesses their marriage.

Young man: to a princess: I don’t want to stay in the palace! I want to be with my friends! I am a musician. I want to travel around the world, I want to be free.

Princess: And I want to be with you! Let’s run away together!!!

King: Don’t go away! You can’t leave you father! Come back!

Narrator: The king was very upset. He couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, he was crying night and day, day and night.

King: Bring the best detective to the palace!!! He has to find my daughter!

Detective: Stay where you are! Don’t move! Don’t touch anything at a crime scene! A-ha! Her fingerprints, her footprints , her hair! This way!

 Is this your daughter, your Magesty?

Is this the Princess?

Is this your daughter?

The detective can’t find the Princess. When he finally brings a young girl the King recognizes his daughter .

King(pointing at the musicians): This is your family! I want you to be happy! Oh, love

All together: This is soooooo sweet!
