День Святого Валентина это англоязычный праздник. Но учащиеся российских школ отмечают этот праздник, расширяя свои познания по страноведению. Тем самым учащиеся участвуют в диалоге культур.Данное мероприятие проводится на английском языке. Оно состоит из исторического материала, а вторая половина - из игровых эстафет.

Цель мероприятия: развитие познавательного интереса
учащихся к истории и культуре страны изучаемого языка.
Задачи:
-знакомство с традициями Дня Святого Валентина в
Великобритании;
-развитие навыков устной речи и аудирования;
- развитие творческих способностей учащихся.
Оборудование:- символы праздника( сердечки, розы,
стрелы и др.)
-музыкальное оформление.
T: Ladies and gentlemen! It’s lovely to meet you at the Valentine’s
party! Today you will get to knowwhy this holiday is ctlebrated all
over the world, there will be short quiz and we’ll play games.
S: St. Valentines day is a holiday celebrated in E nglish-speaking
countries,
in many European countries too. The holiday has roots in several
legends. According to one story St. Valentine was a kindly priest
named Valentine.
S: The Roman Emperor Claudius II made a law against marrying,
because he needed soldiers for fighting wars. And the priest
named Valentinedecided to marry young couples secretly.
S: Some people believe that St. Valentinewas the saint patron of
birds. The legend tells that birds choose their mates on February
the 14th and build their nests.
S: Another legend tells that Valentine was a good friend to
children. He didn’t worship the gods decreed by the Roman
Emperor. He was put in prison.But the children missed him and
brought him loving letters.Some people think this is why we
exchange friendly messages on that day. T: By the way, there is a postcard for you. It’s very unusual.
S: Oh It’s a Valentine! And what is it?
S: It is a special present, a kind of beautifully decorated message.
You can send such a card to any person you like.
S: When did they appear?The oldest valentine dates from1415. A
Frenchman, Charles, Duke of Orleans , was captured by the
English in a battleand put in prison in the tower of London.There
he wrote valentine poems.
S: The custom of sending valentine cards in Europe started in the
1700s. They were made by hand.Kate Greenaway, a British artist,
was one of the leading creators of valentines
S: Now sending Valentine cards on the 14th of February has
become the most popular way of expressing love and friendship.
Pink heart, pierced with an arrow is the most popular symbol of
the holiday.
S: Lace symbolizes a net for catching a lover’s heart.
S: Cupid , the Roman god of love is a symbol of tender love.
S: A ribbon means that a person is tied up.
S: A red rose is the most romantic symbol of love.
S: Nowadays people usually send greeting cards with words of
love to their sweethearts. They say “ Be my Valentine’. They give
roses, chocolates and other presents to them. Children decorate
classrooms, celebrate the day with songs, games and poems.They
have tea with cakes.
T: Thank you very much for your interesting story about the
history, traditions and symbols of St. Valentines Day. I think
you’ve got to know a lot interesting about this holiday. Now let’s
have a competition on the subject of this holiday.
The tasks of the competition
1.Playful task “Find a heart”.
Учитель для проведения конкурса прячет в зале, где
проводится конкурс, маленкие бумажные сердечки. Кто
соберет больше сердец в отведенное для этого время, тот
становится победителем в этом конкурсе.
2.Write Valentine symbols.
Each team will be given a paper. You should write as many
holiday symbols as you can.
( Каждой команде предлагается написать какие символы
этого праздника они знают

sweetheart, ribbons, laces) 3.Make a “Broken heart”.
Find two similar halves of the broken hearts.On one half of the
broken heart is a question about St.Valentines Day. On the other
half there is an answer to it. ( учащиеся получают разрезанные
зигзагом на две половинки сердечки из бумаги. На одной
половинке написан вопрос, на другой – ответ. Учащиеся
находят свои половинки бумажных сердец).
