Module 6, Task 3 – Outline task­based lesson Background:  Mixed ability students at the ages of 17­18, Level: elementary to pre­intermediate.  Most   students   know   the   rules   of   the   Present   Simple   Tense;   however,   they frequently confuse and make mistakes when use verb ­to be and another verb in Present Simple Tense. Pre­Task Introduction to topic  Independenc e Day &  setting the  task Teacher tells students that they are going to learn some new  information about one of the most important holidays in  America. Words: On July 4th, 1776; sparkle; declare; fireworks; flag;  organization; march in the parade; celebration; barbecue;  invite; community; celebrate; parade; independence; national. Teacher checks if students know these words and explains them  if need or asks students to look them up in the dictionary. Teacher asks students if they have any clues about what they are going to read about. The students look through the text and  make suggestions. Task Report Analysis  Practice Planning Teacher gives task to answer the questions. Look exercise 1.  Teacher says that they are going to evaluate each other’s  answers, make corrections and give marks each other. Students work in pairs answering the questions and checking  each other’s answers. They think about what mark their partner  deserves.  Students give information on how his / her neighbor answered questions and give grades to each other. They thank each other. Teacher gives students the text and asks them to underline the verbs in Present Simple and to explain why the verb can add –s. Filling in gaps Teacher   hands   out   the  story   with  gaps   instead   of   the   verbs. Students   fill   out   the   verbs   in   the   correct   form   The   teacher comments on their work. Look exercise 2. The teacher ends up the lesson. He thanks his students for their work and gives marks to them. He asks what they learned today. Exercise I. Find the verbs in the Present Simple Tense in the text and write them Reflection down. Exercise II. Answer the questions. 1) When is a national day in The United States? 2) Why is it one of the most important holidays? 3) How do many communities celebrate July, 4th? 4) What do town parades usually include? 5) What do important organizations do? 6) What do most Americans have at their homes in the afternoon? 7) Do they play games inside? 8) What does the barbecue usually include? 9) What do popular side dishes include? 10) What do people do after eating? What do Americans who live near the ocean do? 11) 12) What can you hear while watching fireworks? Exercise III. Fill in the gaps. 1) Independence Day (celebrate) the Declaration of Independence. 2) People (celebrate) the day with fireworks and parades. 3) Town parades usually (include) veterans and other public servants like  firefighters or the police. 4) Different important organizations that (help) people in the community  also (match) in the parade. 5) The parades (are) usually in the morning. 6) Most Americans (have) barbecues at their homes in the afternoon. 7) People (invite) family, neighbors and friends and (enjoy) food and (play)  games outside. 8) Usually the barbecue (include) hamburgers and hotdogs. 9) Everyone (cook) on a grill outside. 10) 11) A dessert (look) like the American flag. 12) Everybody (watch) fireworks. Somebody (prefer) to make desserts using strawberries or blueberries.
