Background: Mixed ability students at the ages of 1718, Level: elementary to
preintermediate.
Most students know the rules of the Present Simple Tense; however, they
frequently confuse and make mistakes when use verb to be and another verb in
Present Simple Tense.

Teacher tells students that they are going to learn some new
information about one of the most important holidays in
America.
Words: On July 4th, 1776; sparkle; declare; fireworks; flag;
organization; march in the parade; celebration; barbecue;
invite; community; celebrate; parade; independence; national.
Teacher checks if students know these words and explains them
if need or asks students to look them up in the dictionary.
Teacher asks students if they have any clues about what they are
going to read about. The students look through the text and
make suggestions.

Teacher gives task to answer the questions. Look exercise 1.
Teacher says that they are going to evaluate each other’s
answers, make corrections and give marks each other.
Students work in pairs answering the questions and checking
each other’s answers. They think about what mark their partner
deserves.
Students give information on how his / her neighbor answered
questions and give grades to each other. They thank each other.
Teacher gives students the text and asks them to underline the
verbs in Present Simple and to explain why the verb can add –s.
Filling in gaps
Teacher hands out the story with gaps instead of the verbs.
Students fill out the verbs in the correct form The teacher
comments on their work.
Look exercise 2.
The teacher ends up the lesson. He thanks his students for their
work and gives marks to them. He asks what they learned today.
