The theme of the lesson:  “Summer jobs. Writing a CV and a letter of application”

The aim: to learn how to write a CV and a letter of application for searching for a summer job.

The objects:

  1. to practice using words related to professions;
  2. to practice listening for specific information;
  3. to guess words by the context;
  4. to express opinions;
  5. to practice reading for detail;
  6. to make notes.
  7. to study the rules of writing a CV and a letter of application
  8. to practice writing a CV\ letter of application.

Equipment:

·         Computer

·         Multimedia Projector

·         Power Point Presentation

·         Internet resources

 

Ход урока

1.          Организационный момент: Good afternoon!  I’m glad to see you! Today we have an unusual lesson, We have two reasons for it. First of all, we have some guests from our school, let’s greet them. And also one pupil from your group has a birthday today, let’s sing a birthday song to her.

Please, look at the board and these nice smile signs. This one means “I’m afraid”. This one means “I’m worried”.  This one means “I’m ready for work».  Can you show me the sign, which expresses your feelings?

Don’t be afraid and do all the best.

Now you should look at some pictures on the slide and try to understand the theme of our lesson today….. Do you have any ideas? Watch a short video and try to formulate correctly.

What should we start from? (We should start from revising the vocabulary)

But how can we find any job for summer? (Ask your friends, relatives, neighbours. Read the ads in newspapers, TV, radio.  Present the information about your skills.)

There are two ways of presenting personal information: a CV and a letter of application.

Open your LCG and find the meaning of a CV (UK /kəˌrɪkjələm ˈviːtaɪ/

abbreviation for curriculum vitae formal : a short written description of your education, qualifications, previous jobs, and sometimes also your personal interests, that you send to an employer when you are trying to get a job)

Now write the definition of the letter of application (a letter that you write to a company when you are applying for a job)

And how can you identify the main aim of our lesson (to learn how to write a CV and a letter of application for searching for a summer job)

What should we do to achieve our aim? (to analyze the information according to the topic: to listen to the texts, to read them, to make notes)

5.          Знакомство с правилами написания резюме и сопроводительного письма.

a) - Open your student’s book at page 139-140 and find a CV (text B), a letter of application (text C).

-Now work in pairs, read these two texts and complete text C with necessary information

Look at the job advert and email and do the exercises to improve your writing skills.

- Do the preparation exercise first. Match the words with the definitions.

- Read the email from Ben Brown above and complete the application form for him.

- Fill the gaps with the correct phrase from the box.

c) now you have to look through the recommendations about writing a CV and do practical tasks in groups of four people.

 

6) Подготовка к выполнению домашнего задания.

Choose an idea about any summer job and write a CV (видео ролик « 10 Fun Summer Jobs for Teens and College Students”)
