Questions: I. What does the word ecology mean? Ecology is the science of how living things are related to their environment. Many people  all over the world are anxious about ecology today. The word «ecology» came from the Greek  which means "home». 2. Are polluted air. land and water harmful to people, animals and plants? Polluted air, land and water are harmful to plants, animals and people. Many territories,  lakes, rivers, seas, oceans and the atmosphere are polluted with all kinds of technological,  chemical, nuclear and other wastes. Awful harm is caused to our home by nuclear tests, atom  bombs and accidents on the atomic power stations. 3. How do you think to solve the problem of stray dogs? It is sad to see so many stray dogs in the streets of our town. I think they are not to blame  for having to live in towns. I have a dog and a cat at home and I wish everybody in our town  took home at least one pet and it will be a good contribution into wild life protecting. 4. What kind of things can be recycled? Do not buy drinks in plastic bottles that can not be recycled and plastic won't even degrade. If you throw this bottle, it will still litter the earth for ever. Only buy water and other drinks in  aluminum cans or glass bottles. Buy milk and juice in cartoons. Glass, aluminum and cartoon  can be recycled. 5. TV programs require us to be economical: save energy, water, electric power. Why must we save? The energy saved from one recycled aluminum can will operate a television set for three  hours. Save water. If there is the leaky toilet or tap in your house, get someone to fix them. If you  water the garden in the middle of the day when the sun is hot, most of the water evaporates  before it gets to the roots. It is better to water the garden in the coolest part of the day. The best  time to water is early in the morning before the sun gets hot. The electric power station burns coal to produce the energy that keeps your lights on. That  burning coal gives off gases that cause acid rains. So, save electric power. Turn off the lights  when you leave the room. Turn off the TV or the stereo when you are not watching or listening. VII. Make up two posters with suggestions: one in English and the other in Russian and send the poster in Russian to our local akimat. 1. Organize a local recycling centre 2. Pick up litter 3.
