Тип урока: комбинированный
Цель урока: Формирование коммуникативной компетенции обучающихся по данной
теме.
Задачи урока:
Учебная – развивать языковую компетенцию при совершенствовании лексических и
грамматических навыков чтения и говорения;
Общеобразовательная – развивать социокультурную компетенцию, формировать
интерес к расширению страноведческих знаний;
Развивающая – развивать речевую компетенцию языковые, интеллектуальные,
коммуникативные способностей учащихся;
Воспитательную – воспитывать доброжелательное отношение к культуре и истории
Шотландии.
Материалы к уроку: видеоролики по теме, раздаточный материал, аудиозаписи,
презентация по теме.
Ход урока:
T: Good morning pupils, glad to see you today! How are you now? What date, day is it?
P:
T: Ok, very well. So the weekend is coming and lots of people prefer going away. Do you
like travelling? Why?
P:
T: If you have a chance to choose any country you like, where would you go and why?
P:
T: Ok, today I suggest you to visit one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Solve the
puzzles and you’ll name the country.
P: work in 3 groups and solve the puzzle. They find the pictures of a thistle, kilt and Nessie.
T: What country are we going to talk about? What is our topic for today?
P:
T: Why do you think these words are matched with Scotland? What other associations do
you relate to the word “Scotland”? And what’s your aim for the lesson today?
P: to revise facts about the country, learn new information, practice in reading and talking
about the country.
T: As I said Scotland is an amazing country. Let’s admire its wonderful and picturesque
scenery and express your feelings and emotions later. You may do it either personally or by
leaving a comment on my page.

T: Well, I agree with all of you, thanks for your comments. But now let’s revise some facts.

5. What national features do you know about Scotland?
6. Who are famous Scottish people?
P:
T: Well, I see you know lots of names, but who were all these people? What have they done
for their country? Work in 3 groups and match the descriptions with thwe names of famous
people.
1.He was born in Edinburgh. He can be rightly called the creator of the historical novel. He
wrote more than 26 novels such as “Ivanhoe”, “Woodstock”, “Quentin Durward”, etc.
2.Boys and girls of all the countries love and admire him for his stories and books of
adventure and especially for his famous book “Treasure Island”.
3.He discovered penicillin.
4.He was one of the missionaries to Africa, who discovered the Victoria Falls. He was born
in 1813 in a village near Glasgow.
5.He was born in Edinburgh. On the 10th of March, 1876 he invented the telephone. His
father was a worldfamous teacher of speech and the inventor of a system which he called
“Visible Speech”. It helped deaf people to pronounce words they could not hear.
6. Scotland’s national poet. His poems and verses inspired Beethoven, Mendelssohn and
other composers who wrote music to them. He was born on January 25, 1759.
7. Не was a Scottish theoretical physicist. His most important achievement was classical
electromagnetic theory.
8. He was a British physician and writer most noted for his stories about the detective
Sherlock Holmes.
9. He was a Scottish, who was a selfmade man, merchant. Не created the famous Lipton tea
brand.
10. He is Scotland’s national hero who fought against the English in the 13th century trying
to make Scotland independent . He defeated an English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge
in 1297, and was Guardian of Scotland

T: Well, R. Burns wrote a lot of poems about his Bonny Scotland, but the most famous and
beloved one is certainly “My Heart’s in the Highlands” Listen to the beginning and get ready
to recite it – 1 pupil from each group.
P:
T: Thanks a lot! You were great. Let’s continue our work. Last lesson we read the text about
Scotland and your home task was to tell the most important facts. We’ll continue working in
groups and pairs and do the next tasks:
1 group – tell about Scotland
2 group – read the texts and find some main things you need to remember “Highlands and
Islands”, “Nessie” (4 pupils do the task in pairs)
3 group – make dialogues about visiting Scotland

T: very well! When we discover Scotland we may always find unusual things. For example,
isn’t it strange that men wear skirts? We know they are called kilts. But would you like to
know more about them?
Then you’ll do individual reading tasks.
P: read short texts and do the tasks.
T: ok. Today at the lesson we remembered and learned facts about Scotland, its famous
people and national features. But what about its capital? Let’s do some grammar points and
at the same time think what interesting places you may see in Edinburgh.

P:
T: Right you are. But one picturesque event I want you to see now.

T: So next lesson we’ll get facts about the capital and answer the questions you have now.
