I.     Оргмомент. Good morning. How are you? How are you getting on?

Are you in a good mood today?

Let’s start our lesson. Nature is not always so friendly and placid. Look at the pictures.

Volcanoes begin erupting                                                   Certain areas can be hit by flood

Storms, tornadoes, tsunamis and hurricanes break out

Earthquakes can destroy cities                             A thick blinding fog spreads

How do you think what is the topic of our lesson? (1. We are going to speak about volcanoes, and tornadoes). 4.We shall speak about the problems of the planet.)

-          Yes, you are right.

II.Фонетическая зарядка.

At first I want you to repeat phonetics. So let’s read some rhymes and pay attention to phonetics.

Repeat the sound [θ] think, thick, thank

                     What did you think of the new theatre?

                   - I thought it would have been better. It cost

                        thousands to rebuild.

             -  But I thought  it was nothing special.

                 What do you think?

             - I thought it was really something!

The Chaos by Gerard Nolst Trenité

Dearest creature in creation
Studying English pronunciation,
   I will teach you in my verse
   Sounds like corpse, corps, horse and worse.

I will keep you, Susy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy;
   Tear in eye, your dress you'll tear;
   Queer, fair seer, hear my prayer.

Pray, console your loving poet,
Make my coat look new, dear, sew it!
   Just compare heart, hear and heard,
   Dies and diet, lord and word.

Sword and sward, retain and Britain
(Mind the latter how it's written).
   Made has not the sound of bade,
   Say-said, pay-paid, laid but plaid.

Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as vague and ague,
   But be careful how you speak,
   Say: gush, bush, steak, streak, break, bleak ,

Previous, precious, fuchsia, via
Recipe, pipe, studding-sail, choir;
   Woven, oven, how and low,
   Script, receipt, shoe, poem, toe.

Say, expecting fraud and trickery:
Daughter, laughter and Terpsichore,
   Branch, ranch, measles, topsails, aisles,
   Missiles, similes, reviles.

Wholly, holly, signal, signing,
Same, examining, but mining,
   Scholar, vicar, and cigar,
   Solar, mica, war and far.

From "desire": desirable-admirable from "admire",
Lumber, plumber, bier, but brier,
   Topsham, brougham, renown, but known,
   Knowledge, done, lone, gone, none, tone,

(Медякова Л., Пикина А., Надтока Л)

III. Речевая зарядка.

a) The first task will be reading. You should read the unknown text about natural disasters.

Earthquakes are pushes and fluctuations of a surface of the Earth, caused by the natural reasons or artificial processes. Lava lifting at volcanic eruptions can be caused by small pushes. Annually about one million earthquakes occur on the earth, but the majority of them are so insignificant that they are not noticed. The strong earthquakes, capable to cause extensive destructions, happen on a planet about one time in two weeks. Earthquakes are known by their destructions   which they are capable to make. (Марченко Ж,.)

Tsunami is the long waves generated by powerful influence on all thickness of water at ocean or other reservoir. The reason of the majority of a tsunami is underwater earthquakes during which    there is a sharp raising or lowering of a site of a sea-bottom. Tsunami is formed by the earthquake of any force, but the strong earthquakes (more than 7 points) reach the big force. As a result of earthquake some waves extend. More than 80 % of a tsunami arises on the suburbs of Pacific ocean. At coast the height of tsunami can reach several tens meters. The highest waves, 30-40 meters, are formed at abrupt coast. Tsunami is usually shown as a series of waves. (Мещерякова В)

Hurricane, on myths of ancient, is the breath of gods or their penalty for injustice and sins of people. Hurricane represents the strong wind blowing in one direction, and  causing serious damage – it breaks trees, takes down roofs, breaks out, takes down stops. Abroad each hurricane receives a name, and only the female. If hurricane approaches: urgently come back home, close windows, get the pets in the house. If you are in the street – come into shop, don't stop  near the trees or other objects which can suffer from hurricane. (Яльчибаева Э.)

The tornado represents an interesting and dangerous natural phenomenon. It is the weight of air twisting in a funnel which moves with a great speed, destroying all on road, breaking roofs and lifting objects upwards. The tornado is  very dangerous – it often meets in America where people are already ready to its occurrence – they build the strengthened cellars in which all family hide. Recently the tornado began to appear in our country. Consequences from a tornado are very considerable. (Безгодова Н.)

I’ll give you one minute to prepare. Now, you are ready and read the texts.

b)  Sometimes it is very interesting to look at the volcanoes when they start to erupt. And people try to come and look at this event. (видео «Извержение вулкана Шивелуч»)

Work in pairs. Make up the dialogue on the topic: Your friend is a scientist. He invites you to come with him and look at the eruption of the volcano.

You are to ask 5 questions to find out the following:

-          Volcano location;

-          How to get to the volcano;

-          If it is possible to come nearer;

-          Types of transport;

-          Duration of the trip;

                                      and  your partner will answer you. (Лискович Н., Волостнова Н.)

c) The situation can get out of our control unless people all over the world work together to solve ecological problems. One of these problems is the pollution of the air, land  and water.

Next task will be: the description of the  pictures.  Let’s speak about these problems.

Choose the picture and  describe it using the plan.

(Коваленко К., Жеряков К Нечаева Л)

d) Let’s compare and contrast two photos about ecological situation in the towns. Pay attention to the plan. (Курносенко А.. Кадырбаева К.)

IV. To sum up our lesson I want with the  Native American poem.

What are the  tasks which we have to solve?  Do we have to protect our planet? What shall we do for it?

We have to put rubbish in bins.

We  mustn’t cut and burn forests and rainforests.

Walk or use  a bicycle  instead of going by car.

Plant more trees.

Recycle used materials such as metal, bottles and paper.clear rubbish from lakes and rivers.

Save energy. Use less electricity and gas. Turn off the lights when you leave the room.

I’m very satisfied with your work at the lesson and your marks are:

Are you satisfied with your work? Do you agree with your  marks?

V. H-t. ex.41,42, p.133- 135 (repeat the words and describe the pictures. )
