(W) Warming up
Today we are going to speak about one of the
most wonderful things in the world. Well, try to
guess what it is!
T: Look at the screen and read the rhyme and
guess.
It has no mouth but speaks.
It is not a tree but it has leaves.
It is not alive but it can be a good friend
… Right! It is a book
Our theme is “Books in our life’
(W) Why do people read books?
Ps give examples.
(W) Task 1. New vocabulary
T. introduces Ps with the new vocabulary with
the help of pictures
a detective story
a fairy tale
science fiction
a horror story;
a biography
an encyclopedia
(Ps repeat the words after the teacher)
(G) [FA] Task 2 Matching the genres with
their definitions and put on leaves on it.
T: A wise man said, “Life without books is as
tree without leaves”. How can we understand this
quotation?
I’m sure that if we don’t have books in our life, it
will be as boring and gloomy as trees in autumn.
Now let us grow our “book tree”, first connect
the names of the genres with their definitions and
put on leaves on it. (There are the names of
literary genres and their definitions on 2 parts of
leaves)
1) Science fiction is a book about actual or
imagined scientific things or events. 2) A fairytale is a story that teaches a
lesson, a story in which animals or objects
can speak.
3) A horror is a story in which frightening
and often unnatural things happen.
4) A detective is a book that tells a very
exciting story especially of crime and
violence.
5) Biography is a book about another
person’s life.
6) Encyclopedia is a reference work or
compendium providing summaries of
information from either all branches of
knowledge or from a particular field or
discipline
Now our tree looks beautiful!

Task 4 Jigsaw Reading (FA)
1. It was a dark and foggy night. We drove and
drove. At midnight, just as we thought we were
lost, we saw a light behind some trees. As we got
nearer, we could see a house. It looked deserted,
abandoned. We knocked on the heavy, wooden
door. It opened slowly. A tall man dressed
entirely in black stood there. "Good evening", he
said in a slow, deep voice. "I've been expecting
you".
2. We were travelling through deep space at the
speed of light. Suddenly, the spaceship slowed
down and immediately the system came into
view. A bright star with twenty or more planets.
One of these would be our new home, five light
years from our own galaxy.
3. The man lay on the ground next to a white
van. There was no doubt. He was dead. I quickly
looked in the pockets of his jacket – some money;
a handkerchief and a theatre ticket with a
Chicago phone number written on it. Three
murders in three weeks and the victims all killed
in the same way.
4. Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, there
lived a beautiful princess. She was an only child
and her father and mother, the king and queen,
loved her very much. One day, an old woman
came to the castle. When she saw the princess,
she smiled and laughed in a strange and horrible
way.

2. science fiction;

and different types of genres people prefer to
read.
Do you read horror stories, …..?
Is reading important in our life?
What do you know about Ebooks?
What is the difference between printed books and
Ebooks?
(G)
Most:
Discuss the genres of literature with support
Some:
Discuss the difference between printed books
and Ebooks without support
What are the advantages and disadvantages of
these books?
Summing up I want to finish our lesson with the
words of Charles Kingsley “Except a living man,
there is nothing more wonderful than a book”.
I hope that you understand that without books
our life will be empty and boring. Read good
books, enjoy them and think.
