1. Организационный момент
Good morning, class! How are you today? Are you eager to work? Tell me
today’s date, who is absent. So, today we have an unusual lesson, we have some
guests here in the class, they’re all English teachers. Today we are going to talk,
today we’re going to discuss. Before starting let’s warm up a little and do “raise
your hand activity”. (I’ll say a statement and you’ll raise yr hand if it’s true for
you) Raise yr hands those who are going to have a nice day, who are ready to
get a good mark today, who want to work hard, who had a wonderful dream
last night, tired and sleepy, who have great plans for today, who are hungry
or thirsty, feel happy, feel sad, who like Thursdays, feel enthusiastic about
today’s lesson? Ok, let’s get started.
Can you tell me the topic of our previous lessons? (conflicts, how to live in
peace) So, today we’re finishing unit 3, this is the final lesson. We’ll try to
answer 2 questions (what do you think we should know about the conflicts?) 1.
Why do c. happen? What is the reason for c. 2. How to resolve it. What do we
need to be able to discuss – of course, vocabulary, for this purpose we need to
activate it and to be able to use it in speech. We’ll define the topic of our lesson
as the following – Conflicts and conflict resolution.(slide 1)
2. Мотивационный этап
Can you tell me what c. is? Between whom may c. happen? (slide 2) What is
the most common type of c? when did you have c. the last time (well, minor c.
happen practically every day) tell me who has brothers or sisters, who is a single
child……………………(does he bother you, do you have problems about who
will be the first to take out the trash? Do you share your room together or you
have a room of your own? Do you share cosmetics, clothes, the remote control?
Do you have a pet? Who does the cleaning up after your pet? Does your mum
make you do your homework?
(slide 3)Now let’s look at this quotation: “peace is not the absence of c...” Read
and translate it. How do you understand these words? It’s how we can handle it,
resolve it, go through it, finding ways out, how we can solve it. Now let’s look
at another quote “10% of c…..” We may have dif. opinions, but it’s how we
emotionally can handle the c. and react. Do you agree?
3. Актуализация
Let’s revise vocab. that may be useful for your discussion today. I’ll give every
student a slip of paper, each with a different word that needs to be revised. You
are to explain the meaning of the word. I’ll give you some time to think it over.
You will explain the words to the class as a whole. The first student to guess
correctly wins the slip of paper. (responsibility – your job, your duty of dealing with sb or taking care of sth.), to get on, to criticize – to indicate the faults, to
blame, to judge, confident (a feeling that you can tely on yourself), support (to
help sb. by approving, by giving money), cause (to be the reason for sth) , rely
on (trust), obey (to do what someone tells you to do) , approve of (to believe
that something or someone is good or acceptable, to have a positive opinion of
someone or something) , make a fuss about (to worry about unsignificant, not
important things), dependant (when you have no financial support, can’t do
without), sympathy ( the feeling that you care about and are sorry about
someone else's trouble, misfortune) , get away with (to escape, to leave from a
person or place, often when it is difficult to do this), punishment (to make
(someone) suffer for a crime or for bad behavior) , put up with (to accept an
unpleasant situation or behavior), resolve, by peaceful means, value (the
importance of sth. or the amount of money that something is worth), to prevent
(to stop something from happening or someone from doing something) ,
violence ( the use of physical force to harm someone, to damage property) ,
disagree, misunderstanding, respect ( a feeling of admiring someone or
something that is good, valuable, important)
(slide 4) Now you’re going to do a speaking activity. Here are some words or
expressions that need to be revised on the topic of conflicts. You are going to work in
groups . I’ll give a photocopy with some questions about the topic. The aim of the
exercise is to talk about the question and, in doing so, include the word displayed on
the screen.
Questions:
Is it a good idea to punish children?
Is it possible to prevent all conflicts?
What do people want to know about conflicts?
Why do conflicts happen?
What kind of people can resolve conflicts?
How can a conflict be resolved?
Do you think children should do household chores?
Do you think parents should put up with their children’s behavior?
(slide 5) Now let’s get down to grammar focus. Let’s review zero conditional
sentences, when do we use zero conditional, in which cases, and what tenses are used?
( we use present simple in the main clause and in the ifcondition to talk about things
that are generally true). Now continue my sentences using our vocabulary:
1) If conflicts happen between states or political parties…. 2) If people have different values…..
3) If people resolve conflicts peacefully….
4) If we are more attentive to each other…..
5) If you can’t resolve a problem…
6) If children suffer unfair punishments….
7) If children are too dependant on their parents….
8) If children have nobody to rely on…..
9) If you disagree with other people…..
10)
11)
4. We have already mentioned that conflicts in the family are the most common,
If you discuss 2 contrary ideas…..
People want to know about c. resolution if they……want to prevent it.
how often do they really take place among teenagers and what is the most
common reason, now we’re going to find it out. Please, come up with your
survey.
5. (slide 6)The next step of our lesson is discussion. We’re going to create a c.
resolution centre. You may need some information about how to do this on
p.130 in your textbooks, it’s ex.92. let’s change it a little. . Some of you had an
individual task, at home you were to prepare a dialogue concerning some c.
situation in a family, you roleplay the situation. We shall divide in 2 groups,
each of you will be a member of r.centre, now we’re going to listen you your
dialogues, and the members will discuss how to resolve it, first review the ideas,
put them down and then present the solution to the whole class. And then we’ll
discuss it together if it’s effective or not. (slide 7 и 8) the goal of c.
resolution?
6. We have some time left, let’s do some activity. Listen carefully to the
statements and instructions you need to do
If you think that military c. are the most serious raise your hands.
If take part in a c. very rarely , smile!
If you always try to avoid c. say “yes”
If you think that sometimes cs are inevitable stand up
If you you re sure that it’s right to resolve c. peacefully, hug your
classmate.
If you prefer to ask for advice from someone older touch your head.
If you have a sense of humour touch your earlobes
If you try to keep friendly relations with your classmates put yr hand
on the nearby sitting classmate’s shoulder
