                                        ПЛАН—КОНСПЕКТ УРОКА НА ТЕМУ:

                                           «THE EARTH IS OUR HOME»

 

 

 

Задачи: 1. Развивать умения устного говорения и аудирования,умения формировать           

                   собственную точку зрения, давать оценку.

              2. Развивать быструю речевую реакцию, навыки связного высказывания, навыки                    аудирования.

               3. Расширять знания учеников об опасности загрязнения окружающей среды и

                   последствиях загрязнения, обеспечить расширение кругозора учеников и в

                   повышении их культурного уровня.

               4. Убедить учащихся в необходимости беречь Землю, видеть красоту и заботи—

                    ться о будущих поколениях.

 

Оснащение: рисунки, магнитофон, текст с заданиями, тематическая газета, ролевые карто-

                      чки, атрибуты для участников ролевой игры,  песня «Beatles» —

                       «Imagine».

 

 

                            The Plan Of The Lesson

  1. Warm-up

                   Today we are going to speak about the most valuable thing we have – our Earth, the planet we live on. The topic of our lesson is “This colorful world. The Earth is our home.” Look at all these pictures and you’ll get assured that the brightest colors of the word are not artificial, but quite natural,i.e. produced by our colorful nature. And the anthem of the lesson has not been chosen by chance, it is a masterpiece of a famous British group “Beatles”. Listen to the song “Imagine” and think of the colors associated with the pictures.

P.1 – I can see wonderful yellow sunflowers in this picture. They are big and all in blossom. They have brown hearts and look marvelous on the bright blue blackboard of the sky.

P.2 – In this picture I can see red berries. They are covered with snow and look very appetizing for birds that are hungry in winter.

P.4 – In this picture we can see the Great Canyon, one of the wonders of Nature. Its architecture and colors harmonically coexist with each other. Add here some bright sunshine, and you will get a picturesque view, a beautiful fantasy of stones and cliffs, lighted by the summer sun. At the bottom of the Canyon there are some single pine-trees, sometimes gathered in small woods. This picture is not very multicolored, because the main colors are brown, sandy grey and a little green. But only imagine how this “little” green wants to survive.

P.5 – the trees here are very picturesque because it is autumn with wide choice of colors: yellow, red, brown. green, golden. Among them one can see a dead gray tree. It looks so miserable in the festival of colors. It gives me the idea that if the nature dies, the world becomes gray.

T.: Let’s read a verse:

 

Who loves the trees best?

“I” – said the spring.

“Green leaves are so beautiful,

So them I bring!

“I” – summer said.

“I give them flowers

White, yellow and red.”

Who loves the trees best?

“I” – autumn said.

“I give them fruit,

Golden and red.”

Who loves the trees best?

“I love them best”

Harsh winter answered –

“I give them rest!

 

 

T.: A quotation for you is written on the blackboard: “Who loves a garden in its soul life itself.” Would you like to give any comments on the verse and the quotation?

P.: There is nothing more important than nature. Garden is a symbol of nature that gives air to breathe, food, fruit and vegetables to eat, beauty to enjoy. A man will die if the nature dies.

T.: Are there ant problems nowadays connected with nature? (Discussion)

 

     II. COMPREHENTION

 

Listen to the text underline the correct endings in the cards:

                                    ACID RAINS

      Every year more plants and animals disappear never to be seen again.

Nature is carefully balanced and if this balance is disturb everyday, thousands of species of animals draw closer to extinction.

In many lakes fish are dying. Fishermen are worried because every year there are fewer fish and some lakes have no fish at all. Scientists are beginning to get worried too. What is killing the fish?

The problem is acid rains. Acid rain is a kind of air pollution. It is cause by factories that burn coal or oil or gas. These factories send smoke high into the air. The wind often carries the smoke far from the factories. Some of the harmful substances in the smoke may come down with the rain hundreds of miles away.

 

Choose the correct ending.

III ROLE-PLAY

 

               Now we’ll have a kind of a Congress of people who protest against the pollutions. We’ll have a role-play. Here are cards for some of you to get ready with your role.

                   Role card #1

       You are a member of “Green Party”. Tell the Congress about the danger of air pollution, animals and plants extinction, and forest destruction.

               Use the words:

-          acid rains – кислотные дожди

-          to emit into the air – выбрасывать в воздух

-          oxygen – кислород

        

          Role card #2

You are a member of  Green Peace Organization. Speak on the radioactive contamination in 1986 in Chernobyl, how did it affect the Earth?

         Use the words and words-expressions:

-          the course of pollution – причина загрязнения

-          to contaminate with – загрязнять

-          harmful substances – вредные вещества

 

           Role card #3

You are a doctor. Speak about the harmful changes in people’s health caused by the Chernobyl Contamination, elevated level of birth defects, changes in human genes.

            Use the words:

-          serious diseases – серьезные заболевания

-          poor ecological situation – плохое экологическое положение

-          to get worse – ухудшаться

-          to cause – быть причиной

-          changes in human genes – изменения в генах

-          childhood leukemia – детская лейкемия

-          sickness – болезнь

 

            Role card #4

You are an ecologist. Speak up on the “greenhouse effect”, toxic wastes and other problems of the environment; try to find the ways of solution.

                Use the phrases:

-          chemical plants – химические заводы

-          intensive agriculture – интенсивное сельское хозяйство

-          to recycle – перерабатывать

-          alternative sources of energy – альтернативные источники энергии

-          ecologically safe enterprises – экологически безопасные предприятия

 

 

 T.: Here are some notions to recollect and operate with (the work with the class):

       Ecology – the study of an organism and its environment

Environment – all the surroundings, a living being, climate, air, water, soil

Ecosystem – a community of plants and animals living together

Greenhouse effect – increasing of the temperature

Toxic – containing poison

Oxygen – a gas that makes up 21% of the Earth Atmosphere

Smog – brown air pollution, unsafe to breathe

 

 

P.1(a member of the party of “Greens”): The nature is in danger now. The trees and animals are killed by people, by the polluted air and acid rains. Tons of smoke and gas are emitted into the air. If there is no oxygen from the trees, the life dies.

P.2(a doctor): A lot of people are getting ill with serious diseases; the health of many people is getting worse every year because of poor ecology. Today we must pay attention to the elevated level of birth defects, sicknesses, children’s leukemia, and changes in human genes, caused by the Chernobyl contamination.

P.3(a member of Green Peace Organization): the radioactive contamination was in Chernobyl in 1986, It spread to many parts of Ukraine and other countries such as Belarus and Russian Federation. 12 regions of 25 were contaminated with harmful substances.

P.4(an ecologist): the pollution develops due to toxic wastes produced by chemicals plants and intensive agriculture. The climate also changes; it becomes warmer due to the so-called greenhouse effect. The problem of environmental protection has become of vital importance lately. What must be done to save situation? Let’s match the problem and solution:

5. Destruction of forests

                   T.: Besides, a man should be healthy to enjoy the nature colors and life generally. We speak here about healthy way of life that includes:

                   - kind thoughts

                   - love

                   - spiritual and intellectual improvement

                   - absence of bad habits

                   - eating a lot of vitamins

                   - no war

                   - an ability to survive

 

                   Who is the famous survivor whose adventures are describes in literature? Obviously, it is Robinson Crusoe who was strong enough to live for 27 years on the isolated island. This man is certainly a hero, who with a belief in God and his own psychological and physical strength could survive in a hostile environment.

                   Now let’s discuss the questions “What helped him to survive? What made Robinson happy?”

                   Dictation:море,шторм,волны,большой камень, вода, берег, открытая местность, дерево, полезные вещества, инструменты, 3формы глагола плавать, остров, трава, птицы, ягоды, друг.

 

 

 

                   Would you like to find yourselves on the isolated island, for example to try on a role of “the Last Hero”, a famous TV program which is supported by Green Party of Ukraine?

 

 

 

                   Home task is to write a composition on one of the topics:

“Would you like to find yourself on an isolated island?”

“The environmental pollution is a threat to life”.

 

 

                   What conclusion can we come to having discussed such problems of ecology as friendly and harmful environment, healthy way of life? Who can dwell on it?

 

                   P.: we all know that Earth is our home; we must take care of it. Nothing is more important to our survival than air, healthy food and pure water. We must save the planet and nature only if the nations combine their efforts in caring for the planet.

                   I would like to finish the lesson with the great song by John Lennon who is announced the man of a century in Great Britain.

Imagine there’s no heaven,

It’s easy if you try,

No hell below us,

Above us no sky,

Imagine all the people

Living for today…

Imagine there’s no countries,

It isn’t hard to do,

Northing to kill or die for,

No religion too,

Imagine all the people living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer,

But I’m not the only one,

I hope some day you’ll join us,
