VI. Развитие навыков монологической речи.
T.: It’s time to remember the floral symbols of Great Britain. You can see these symbols on the screen. Choose the most interesting and poetic legend and tell your classmates about one floral symbols.
S1: I want to tell you about “Rose”. The most famous roses of England are the Red Rose which served as the symbol of the House of Lancaster in their claims for the royal throne as opposed to the White Rose standing for the House of York. The struggle between Lancastrians and Yorkists is traditionally referred to as the Wars of the Roses. The resulting union of the two houses when Henry VII (from the House of Lancaster) married Princess Elisabeth of York in 1486 gave rise to the Tudor Rose, a superimposition of the white rose on the red.
S2: I want to tell you about “Thistle”. Originally, the heraldic emblem of Scotland adopted later by James III (15th century). The Thistle symbolizes defense, hence the motto Nemo me impune lacessit meaning Nobody touches me with impunity.
S3: I want to tell you about “Shamrock”. It is the national emblem of Ireland. Accoding to legend, it was the plant chosen by St. Patrick to illustrate the Christian doctrine of the Trinty to the Irish.
