I am glad to see you. The topic of our lesson is « Inventions in Our Life ». We have already discussed the problem of using different appliances in our everyday life. Now, it is time to speak about your attitude to them if they are pieces of technology you can hardly live without. In other words, which of them are junk (really useless) and which are extremely useful. II. MAIN PART 1.T. -As you know, science is important in the modern world for a number of reasons. What most important inventions of the mankind can you name? Speak one by one. a computer a TV set a mobile phone a microwave oven a TV remote-control unit a videophone roller blades a washing machine a vacuum cleaner a sewing machine a dishwasher a videotape a type writer a video player the Internet a CD a video camera a cordless phone a solar powered calculator a fax machine 2-Brainstorming T. - Do you have some of these gadgets or machines at home? What are they? Why do you like or dislike to use modern inventions in everyday life? What electric appliances can you use every day? Give some reasons using the expressions: -I think… -To my mind… -In my opinion… -It seems to me… Possible answers: - I think that a TV set is the most important thing in the house. Our family get together in front of it. We can relax and watch TV in the evening. - Some of the inventions, for example a vacuum cleaner or a washing machine are less important. We wash or clean the house once or twice a week. And I’m sure we can do without a sewing machine. Nobody in our family can make clothes. 3. Reading T: The next point of our lesson is reading. Now, boys and girls, read and guess the objects. 1. It is made of plastic. It is used for talking to other people. If it is kept in the house, it is called a t….e. Group work. T: Tell me please, why we can’t imagine our life without some inventions. The first group will talk about a computer. The second group will talk about a car. The third group will talk about a phone. Then the experts of each group will present your work in class. The pupils of other groups can ask questions. Group 1 Expert: I could not live without my computer at home. It is strange to think that one of the most powerful and richest businesses in the world is a bit more than 30 years old. I mean computer businesses. Computers are widely used in offices, banks, educational institutions and in households. Here you can see some stages of the development of the INTERNET. More than 1 billion people use it nowadays. I've also got a computer. I use it all the time. It is like a typewriter and address book for me and it is also used for checking my spelling. Besides I can surf the Internet and discover everything about anything, it is a brilliant source of information. I have designed my own website and I can get information for school. Besides some websites are packed with quizzes, games and competitions, it is all you need for fun. You can play and learn. It is absolutely essential. I don't know how I ever managed without my computer. Group 2 Expert: I could not possibly live without my car. A car is one of the most useful inventions in our life. The world's first petrol-driven car was produced by Karl Benz in Germany in 1885. The first Russian automobile was designed by P.A. Frez and E.A. Yakovlev. It had been built by May1896. An American technological genius Henry Ford built an automobile which had speed of 25 miles per hour in 1896. Convenience seems to be the most common and the most logical answer. You can travel freely and comfortably wherever you want, it allows you to stop where you want on the way. Besides a car is a way of self-expression. I think a car is a necessity rather than a luxury. Group 3 Expert: I could not imagine my life without my phone. I think it is the most useful invention that I can imagine. We always need to keep in touch with people, offices and different institutions. The first telephone was invented by an American engineer Alexander Graham Bell in 1876. Modern telephones can be divided into stationary, cordless and mobile. At home I've got a cordless telephone. I think it saves time when you have a receiver just at hand. I've also got a mobile telephone too. I couldn't possibly live without my phone. I can take it anywhere I like. I can get in touch with anybody from any place. I can call the police and the ambulance. ІІІ. Summing up Home task: prepare stories or presentations about inventions we can’t live without.INVENTIONS IN OUR LIFE
