Викторина «Страны и обычаи»
Цели: обобщение материала по теме «Countries and Customs»; активизация лексических навыков; тренировка навыков аудирования и монологической речи.
Оборудование: мяч; флажки; карточки с названиями городов; картинки с достопримечательностями различных городов мира.
Ход мероприятия
I. Организационный момент
- Good morning, children! How are you? Today we shall sing songs and recite poems, ask and answer the questions, describe the pictures and play games on the topic "So Many Countries, So Many Customs".
Учитель приветствует детей, сообщает им цель и тему викторины.
II. Проведение викторины
- Each pupil will do the tasks and get "a flag". The first task is to answer the questions. Listen carefully, please!

1. Which country is the largest in the world?
2. Who founded the capital of Russia?
3. The Volga is the longest river in Russia, isn't it?
4. What are the colours of the Russian flag?
5. Where is Russia situated?

10. How do people call the flag of Great Britain?

За каждый правильный ответ ученики получают 1 флажок (1 очко). Учитель заранее готовит маленькие флажки или использует фишки, звёздочки и т.п. вместо флажков.
— Thank you for your answers and questions. Now I want you to remember the ways people celebrate holidays in different countries. You will listen to my stories and name the country and the tradition.
Учитель зачитывает рассказы о различных праздниках, ученики называют страну и традицию (обычай, праздник).
1. This holiday lasts for a week. During this week people always cook pancakes. People celebrate it at the end of February or at the beginning of March. During this holiday they celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of spring. {Russia, Maslenitsa.)
2. Children go out into the streets on the 5th of November with figures like scarecrows. They stand on the streets and squares asking for the usual "Penny for the Guy". Then they buy fireworks and burn the guy on the bonfire. (Great Britain, Guy Fawkes Day.)
3. On that day the members of the family do a big cleaning up. When the house is clean they all sit round and watch TV. On TV or on the radio you can hear 108 bells. People eat the special food and I drink rice wine during the meal. {Japan, New Year.)
4. People celebrate this holiday on the last Thursday in November, It is perhaps the most important day in the year. People go to church, and families come together. They decorate their houses with fruits and flowers of autumn and prepare traditional food: roast turkey, potatoes and pumpkin. The turkey has become a symbol of this holiday since 1621. (The USA, Thanksgiving Day.)
5. People invite their friends to their houses on this holiday. When the clock begins to strike 12, the head of the family goes to the entrance door, opens it wide and holds it until the last strike. Then he shuts the door. People call the Eve of this holiday "Hogmanay". (Scotland, New Year.)
6. On the 4Ih of July 1776 this country became independent from England. It was the beginning of a new life. And since that time this day became a national party. Every town and every city have parades, games and sports with prizes. There are often picnics too. (The USA, Independence Day.)
7. This is the biggest holiday of the year. Many people enjoy it Мost of all and say that this is the main holiday of the year. People send cards and decorate their houses. Parents tell their children that Santa Claus will come to their houses at night and leave presents for them. (The USA, England, New Year)

— Will you go to the blackboard, please? You can see the picturesand the names of the cities. You will match the picture of an interesting place and the name of the city.
На доске вывешиваются карточки с названиями городов (London, Moscow, Washington D.C., New York, St. Petersburg) и картинки с изображением достопримечательностей этих городов. Ученики по очереди выходят к доске и называют город и его достопримечательности. За правильный ответ ученик получает 1 флажок.
— It's time to describe the famous people of different countries. You can see their portraits on the blackboard. Who will be the first to speak?
Учитель вывешивает на доске портреты известных людей (М.В. Ломоносов; Ю.А. Гагарин; Ч. Дарвин; Д. Вашингтон; Д. Кук; М. Твен; Д. Лондон; А. Кристи; Д. Чейз; В. Шекспир). Ученики рассказывают об одном из известных людей. (Рассказ должен содержать 5-7 предложений. Ученик может получить до 3 флажков за свой рассказ).
Примерный рассказ:
Charles Darwin is a well-known scientist. He was born at the beginning of the 19th century. He studied at Cambridge University. He was interested in many different kinds of plants and animals. Darwin created his famous theory of evolution. It opened a new period in the development of a science of biology. Charles Darwin died in 1885 and was buried in Westminster Abbey.
— Now the task for you is to find and write the missing letters in the words. If you spell the word correctly, you will get one flag.
На доске написаны столбиком слова с пропущенными буквами. Слова учитель подбирает по своему усмотрению (названия праздников, названия музыкальных инструментов, названия стран и т.п.)- За каждое правильно написанное слово ученик получает 1 флажок.
