In our work we tried to find out possible answers. We studied the facts from the Internet sources, books, magazines and found out the reason of popularity of red color in England.
The basic part
England is very beautiful country with a rich history. It is the native land of
ancient castles, unique landscapes and legends.
Why is red color so popular in England?
Why are boxes, buses, mail boxes of red color?
Red color is represented on the flag of Great Britain.
Maybe that's why some object are painted in red as the symbol of the Great Britain
There are many monotonous shades and colors in the streets of London.
The weather is usually foggy and the sky is cloudy. Such conditions can be a reason of many accidents. That’s why red may be so popular in this country. Red buses can be seen well in any weather.
Color
of London is red.
Mail boxes are red. Till recent times telephone boxes were red. Buses were red... Underground trains were mostly the same color one time. The tile of the Roman London was red. The first London wall has been built of red sandstone. Even the London bridge was supposed to have a red shade.
Red
double-decker buses have been painted in the
traditional red color initially accepted for buses as it is a symbolical color
for London - mail boxes and telephone boxes initially were red.
London
is considered to be a city of fog.
By
the end of XIX century fogs in London were becoming more and more frequent
disaster. The list of the most sinister fogs included fogs of December 1881,
January 1882, November 1901, January - February 1918, November 1921 and
December, 1924. The fog, which fell to London in December, 1952, was the reason for more than 4 thousand victims.
In December, 1957 the fog caused the railway
accident in the east of London, in Lewishamm, as a result 87 people died.
....
Strong and dirty fogs in London were formed because of huge amount of dust and
the soot, taking off from oven and chimney pipes.
The
suspension of microscopic drops of moisture and particles of coal soot generated that "smog",
which not only made movement impossible, even birds and animals lost their way in it. Fogs quite often became the
reason for accidents...
John
Evelin has composed the special treatise about fogs in which suggested refusing from heating by coal,
proscribing all kinds of noisy and dirty trade from city and planting set of
bright flowers for convenience of inhabitants in city.
These recommendations became a reality only in XX century. Because of struggle against fogs red became the favourite color of mail boxes and cabs. In London there are a lot of red telephone boxes. In a fog red color is visible the best of all.
