                             Good morning, dear children!

2020 is a year of exceptional importance. We are going to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War, the tragic event that started in 1941 in June and lasted for almost four years. There is hardly a family that didn’t suffer losses during this cruel war. Today our lesson is dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

Task 1 Brainstorm the word “War”, use the nouns in singular. Slide 2.

Task 2. Name as many cities of military glory of Russia as possible. Slide 3, 4.

(Vladikavkaz, Moscow, Leningrad, Volgograd (Stalingrad), Sevastopol,

Odessa, Kerch, Minsk, Tula, Novorossiysk, Brest, Murmansk)

Pictures of these cities and towns are on the screen.

Task 3. What streets keep the memory of the Great Patriotic War.  Name the streets in Vladikavkaz,  named in honour of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. Slide 5,6,7.

Did you know that? Tell if you know interesting facts about them.

Both of his legs were amputated below knee, but he wanted to return to his fighter pilot career. For a whole year he exercised hard to walk on prosthetic legs and was able to return to combat in June 1943. In total, he completed 86 combat flights and shot down 11 German warplanes. When interviewed Maresyev always stressed that there was nothing extraordinary in what he did. “I’m a man, not a hero”, he said. He was a very modest man.

Task 9.  Do you remember the songs of The Great Patriotic War? One of the most popular songs of the war was “Katyusha”. Put the lines of the song in the correct order.

Right Order

Apple trees and pear trees were a flower,
River mist was rising all around.
Young Katyusha went strolling by the hour
On the steep banks,
O’er the rocky ground.

By the river’s bank she sang a love song
Of her hero in a distant land.
Of the one she’d dearly loved for so long,
Holding tight his letters in her hand.

Check your answers. Now, let’s sing the song together. First in English, then in Russian.

Task 10. Give a title to the text and find the answers to the questions.

Move –двигаться

Trenches –траншеи

Pillbox –дзот

Attack -атаковать

The people of our country struggled for their land in 1941-1945. The war took place in Ossetia too. On the 1st of November 1942 the German

fascists took Alagir and moved to Vladikavkaz. The road between Alagir and Vladikavkaz was 40 kilometres long. It was very important for our army to stop the fascists near Vlsdikavkaz. Many men and women joined the army. The children also helped to build trenches and pillboxes.

On the 6 th of November 1942 the Soviet Army began to attack the fascists. A lot of heroes gave their lives for the future of our country. North Ossetia was free from the fascists on the 1st of January 1943.

We mark the anniversary of Victory over the fascists Germany every year. It is a very important holiday for us, because it was the war which lasted 1418 days. We must know the past of our country. We must not forget the people who didn’t come back from the war. We hope we shall live in peace and friendship with the other peoples of the world. In 2020 we are going to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Great Victory.

1. When did German fascists take Alagir?

2. Who helped the Soviet army to build trenches and pillboxes?

3. How many days did the war last?

4. When was Ossetia free from the fascists?

5. Why do we mark the anniversary of Victory over the fascist Germany every year?

Reflexion. Slide 16
