Unit 47   (a) Изучите следующую ситуацию:  Reported speech (1)       Вы хотите сказать кому­то, что Вам сказал Джо. Это можно сделать двумя способами:   Вы можете повторить слова Джо (прямая речь): Joe said `I'm having stomach­ache.'(Direct speech) или вы можете использовать косвенную речь: Joe said (that) he was having stomach­ache. (Reported speech) Сравните два предложения: Прямая: Joe said `I am having stomach­ache.' (Кавычки говорят о прямой речи)  Косвенная: Joe said (that) he was having stomach­ache.     (b) Когда мы используем косвенную речь, то обычно говорим о прошлом. Поэтому в косвенной речи глаголы стоят в прошедшем времени (He said that../I told them that..и т.д).   Cравните:   Прямая речь Косвенная речь Present Simple Past Simple `I like apples.` He said (that) he liked apples. Present Continuous Past Continuous `It is raining.` He said (that) it was raining. Present Perfect Past Perfect `John has given up smoking.` He said (that) John had given up smoking. Shall/will Should/would `I’ll come home late.` He said (that) he would come home late. Can/may Could/might `She can sing well.` He said (that) she could sing well.   с Глаголы в Past Simple (did/went/slept и т.д.) можно обычно оставлять неизменными в косвенной речи, либо употреблять их в Past Perfect  (had done/gone/slept):   Прямая: Ann said `I didn’t go to work yesterday.` Косвенная: Ann said (that) she didn’t go to work the day before. Ann said (that) she hadn’t gone to work the day before.  О косвенной речи см.также Unit 48 и Unit 50b.
