Unit 102   Comparison (2) (a) У некоторых прилагательных и наречий  сравнительные формы образуются неправильно. Они представлены в следующей таблице:   good/well Better bad/badly Worse more less farther (for distance) further(for time or meaning more additional) later(for time) older(for age) elder(talking about members of a family) much many little far late old   Further (но не 'farther') может еще означать more или additional:   ­ Is there any further news? ( further =any more news)­ I can't walk any farther. I'm exhausted.(= distance)   Обратите внимание на сравнительные слова more и less:   ­ We are glad that this work is less difficult. ­ I smoke more than I used to.   (b) Older и elder: Сравнительная степень от old ­ это older. Но мы употребляем слово elder, когда  говорим о членах одной семьи. Мы говорим (my) elder brother/sister/son/daughter: ­ My elder sister is an artist.   Мы употребляем elder только перед  существительными:   ­ My sister is older than me. (но не 'elder than me')   (c) Иногда вы можете употреблять сравнительную форму два раза подряд. Например: harder and harder, more and more, more and more difficult. Мы используем такую конструкцию, чтобы сказать, что что­то  находится в процессе постоянного изменения.Например: ­ It's becoming more and more difficult to find a job.   (d) Обратите внимание на конструкцию the + СРАВНИТЕЛЬНАЯ ФОРМА + the better. Например:   ­ What time shall we leave? ­ The sooner the better. (= it will be best if we leave as soon as possible) ­ What size box do you want? ­ The bigger the better. (= it will be best if the box is as big as possible)   Мы употребляем the... the...(с двумя  сравнительными формами), чтобы сказать, что одно зависит от другого:   ­ The warmer the weather, the better I feel. ­ The more you have, the more you want.
