Preparing students for learning new knowledge

Expand the lesson topic through the game “Who is smarter and faster?” Groups should complete this sentence.

With the help of computer networks you can solve many problems. For example...............................?

Acquaintance of students with the topic of the lesson and its objectives

3-10min

When data is transmitted in any medium, signal attenuation occurs, which limits the length of the network distance.

To overcome this limitation and expand the network, install special expansion devices, specialized subscribers (nodes) of the network, these include repeaters, bridges, routers (gateways) and gateways.

These devices are used to unite several heterogeneous networks into a single network with different exchange protocols, in particular, with one-off packet formats, different coding methods, and different transmission speeds.

As a result of their use, a complex and heterogeneous network, which contains the most diverse 2 segments, from the user’s point of view, looks like a regular network? The part of the network, which does not include the extension device, is called a network segment

Representative method

The first group - "Nodes"

The second group - "Routers"

The third group - "Switches"

Groups have posters and laptops. Students should collect information about their devices (description, functions).

One student from each group publishes their posts in the next group.

The task

Insert the missing word

Networks use such communication devices:

 ?????? - (device for modulating and demodulating a signal) is used to connect computers to the network;

 ?????? - sends the data received via one of the communication channels to each of the attached channels;

?????? - sends data only on one channel, determining the route on which you want to send data;

 ?????? - a remote computer that, when your machine is connected to it, becomes an intermediary for the subscriber to access the Internet;

 ?????? - connects several networks to one, sends data from one network to another;

Pupils rate themselves according to the principle of self-assessment according to the principle of academic integrity.

30-35min

Questions to control learned material:

·         What are computer networks and what are their main tasks?

·          What is a host?

·         What are the functions of routers and switches?

·         How does a switch differ from a router?

Homework:

Watch a video about how the router and switch work.

Reflection.

Students use Linoit online board stickers to answer the following questions.

- What were the problems?

- What have we learned today?

Differentiation – how do you plan to give more support? How do you plan to challenge the more able learners?

Assessment – how are you planning to check students’ learning?

Cross-curricular links
Health and safety check
ICT links
Values links

Observe SE throughout the lesson when moving around the classroom during group work.

Reflection

Were the lesson objectives/learning objectives realistic? What did the learners learn today? What was the learning atmosphere like? Did my planned differentiation work well? Did I stick to timings? What changes did I make from my plan and why?

Use the space below to reflect on your lesson. Answer the most relevant questions from the box on the left about your lesson.

Summary evaluation

What two things went really well (consider both teaching and learning)?

1: Questioning students, everybody involved

2: All students actively involved, lots of easy questions so more challenged students able to get involved.

What two things would have improved the lesson (consider both teaching and learning)?

1: Incorporate a game to find the information

What have I learned from this lesson about the class or individuals that will inform my next lesson?

Have a wide range of questions from easy to difficult for differentiation.
