Theme of the lesson

Role of the physics in modern world

Learning objectives that are achieved at this lesson(Subject Programme reference)

To express propositions about the role of the physics in modern world and express your opinion

Lesson objectives

To be able to express opinion about development of technology in modern world and the role physics played in that

Success criteria

Student have achieved the learning objectives if they:

-       Can state (with examples) the role of physics in development of modern technology;

-       Are able to make predictions about the further development in particular field

Language objectives

Language objectives: to be able to use forms like “it is a well-known fact”, “scientists predict” etc.

Subject-specific vocabulary & terminology: modern world, physical phenomenon, technological progress.

Useful sets of phrases for dialogue and writing: this slide/picture shows…; the further development is based on…; with the help of…;

Cross-curricular links

Connection with the development of chemistry and biology, as well as computer science

ICT skills

Successfully surfing internet in order to find necessary information

Beginning

(1-3 min)

Greeting the class: good morning/afternoon class! Take your seats please.

Take note of the absent: who is absent today?

Make students familiar with the topic, learning objectives and success criteria of the lesson. Discuss the learning objectives with them.

Students are divided into equal group (group of 3 to 5 people each) in order to prepare the presentations on a given topic

Students are given time to prepare the presentation on one of the following topics(presentation may be prepared on the computers in PPT to be displayed on the intellectual white board or can be drawn/schemed on the A3 paper with coloured pencils and markers):

1)      The history of the modern science (particularly physics) the beginning of the 21th century scientific researches and their finding (Niels Borh theory of atom, radioactivity, AC/DC circuits etc.)

2)      The effect of the modern development of physics in computer science (transistors, trimmers, binary code etc.)

3)      The effect of the modern development of physics in cosmology (human on Moon, satellite communication, intergalaxial telescopes etc.)

4)      The effect of the modern development of physics in medicine (robosurgery, cancer cure etc.)

Students make a public defence on what they had prepared, answer the question of the class, cross-assessment of each others works and comments on them

Reflection: Write an essay on topic:

“What else (useful and harmful) do you think the future and development of technology bring us?”

PPT slide 8

Differentiation – how do you plan to give more support? How do you plan to challenge the more able learners?

Assessment – how are you planning to check students’ learning?

Health and safety regulations

Differentiation is made based on the difficulty of the topic (it can be selected randomly or it can be given to a particular group)

Assessment criteria:

-       Informative

-       Pleasing the eye

-       Prediction of further development are done

Do not allow to point marker and pencil to each others faces

Make sure about the way students sit while working

Reflection

Were the lesson objectives/learning objectives realistic? Did all learners achieve the LO?

If not, why?

Did my planned differentiation work well?

Did I stick to timings?

What changes did I make from my plan and why?

Use the space below to reflect on your lesson. Answer the most relevant questions from the box on the left about your lesson.

Summary evaluation

What two things went really well (consider both teaching and learning)?

1:

2:

What two things would have improved the lesson (consider both teaching and learning)?

1:

2:

What have I learned from this lesson about the class orachievements/difficulties of individuals that will inform my next lesson?
