Урок-викторина по английскому языку "A Happy Chance Game" охватывает тему "Англо-говорящие страны, государственное и политическое устройство, национальные символы, достопримечательности и традиции".
Викторина состоит из 4 этапов разного уровня сложности. За участие присуждается определённое количество баллов. Победителем становится ученик, набравший самый большой балл.

Good –morning, dear students! I’m very glad to see you at our lesson
today. We have an unusual lesson today, because we’ve gathered to hold
one game. It is called “A Happy Chance Game”. Our game will be
devoted to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I
do hope that you’ve learnt a lot of interesting facts in our English lessons
about the geographical position of the country, the climate, vegetation
and wild life, the national traits of British people and their lifestyle. I’m
sure you’ll get certainly some more useful information today as well.
You will take part in four games. The rules of the game are quite simple.
You are to respect your groupmates and not shout. No doubt, winning
the aim, but it’s only the game. Don’t forget that. Besides, there are many
guests today in our classroom, that’s why let’s show them our language
skills.
Game I is called “Quiz about Great Britain”. The task is to answer the
questions at high speed. If you don’t know or don’t remember the
answer, you should say “Go on”. You’ll get 2 points for the right answer,
0 point for the wrong answer and 1 point for the answer.
Game II is called “Who? What? Where?” The task is read the sentence,
look to the pictures and name a place, a person, or a event.
Game III is called “Short names”. The task is match full name with the
shortest one.
Game IV is called “Puzzles in the Barrels”. The task is to give Russian
equivalents of the English proverbs.
Are you ready? Let’s begin our game.
1) The first game “Quiz about Great Britain”. The task is to answer the
questions at high speed. If you don’t know or don’t remember the
answer, you should say “Go on”. You’ll get 2 points for the right answer,
0 point for the wrong answer and 1 point for the answer.

17.Who does the real power belong to? ( Parliament)
18.What ocean is the UK washed by? (the Atlantic Ocean)
19.What animal is the symbol of the English might and strength?(the
Lion)
20.Name the member of the English royal family who lived to be more
than 100 years old. (the Queen mother)
21.Name any national English game. (football, rugby, cricket)
22.What was the Tower of London on the past? (a fortress, a palace, a
prison, the King’s Zoo)
23.Who was William Shakespeare? (a poet, a playwriter)
24.Where did William the Conqueror come from? (Normandy, France)
25.Where is the political centre of London? (Westminster)
26.What parts does the UK consist? (Great Britain and Northern
Ireland)
27.What is celebrated on February, 14? (St. Valentine’s Day)
28.When is Christmas celebrated in Britain? (December, 25)
29.What plant is the symbol of England? (the red rose)
30.What is the name of the Queen? (Elizabeth II)
2) The next round is called “Who? What? Where?” The task is read the sentence,
look to the pictures and name a place, a person, or a event. The first student who
puts up his hand, gets the right to answer. Mind, no point for you, if I hear
somebody shouting. Now, look to the screen.

Thank you! The next round is called “puzzles from the Barrels”. You see,
this time the proverbs have been hidden into the colourful barrels. There
are 14 of them. Choose any barrel you like, open it, find the proverb
inside and try to give a Russian equivalent of an English proverb. If you
give a wordforword translation, you’ll get 1 point. If you give a Russian
equivalent of an English proverb, you’ll get 2 points. A “HappyChance”
card will give you an extra 5 points. Mind. You only have 10 seconds to
think it over.

12.Don’t cross the bridge will you come to it. (Не говори гоп, пока не
перепрыгнешь)
13.Don’t trouble trouble until trouble troubles you. (Не буди лихо, пока спит
тихо) 14.There is no smoke without a fire. (Нет дыма без огня)

Заключительная часть. Подведение итогов.
That’s all! While the jury is busy totaling the score let’s pass over the
next round “Hurry up and See!”. I’ll show you several colourful pictures
of some places of interest in London. You have to name what are they.
